DirtBag Delay ~ Deluxe Memory Man

I started putting this schematic in Eagle sometime last year, basing it off a factory one. Anyway, I only had about 25% completed, and due to a sleepless night I was able to finish it off and start on a layout. Still have to go over the schem with a fine-toothed comb, but it is at least 95% correct. The layout is about 25% done---fitted for 1590BB

p.s. IC10 is mislabeled ATM
Work so far:

Awesome.
All that's left to do now is sacrifice a first-born child to Circuitous, the god of electronics, so that we'll have MN3005's rain upon our grateful heads.

Please correct me if I´m wrong: They use a 24V-power supply just to heat a 7805? What sense should that make?
----
Madbean, if you really manage to put this into a BB-enclosure, I´ll be the first one to order a pcb!
I think the biggest problem for most builders will be to set the trimpots correctly. I never managed to do that just "by ear".
I know that there´s an instruction somewhere on the web that explains how to do it with an oscilloscope, but not many people have one...

Well... we did it with the Aqua Puss, we can do it with this... I'm guessing that's why Madbean was asking after MN3205s in another thread... so i'm looking forward to this as that's something I always wanted to build, a 3205 DMM (Just cause I can't find the 3005s)

Hey,this is cool,I have always wanted to build myself a Deluxe Memory Man ever since I found a schematic on the Internet way back in the late Nineties, the schematic I found used SAD1024 ICs,and then, when I found out that they were hard to find, and,or,expensive when you could find them,I started feeling a little depressed....
I have a circuit board that I pulled out of a Rocktech Guitar amplifier,it was the Chorus Circuit, anyway,it has one MN3102 IC,and one MN3207 IC on it,those are the only MNxxxx ICs I have on me.....

great work...
I've already built an Aquaboy with double-delay and modulation board...
The DirtBag will be totally different from this?

I've adjusted my trimpots "by ear"... if you have a single BBD circuit, the work is pretty easy, but with a double BBD I've used the audio probe for a correct bias-setting... I've connected a beep signal in the INPUT, and I've setted the BIAS trimpots for having the best wet signal possible from each BBD.
The CANCEL pot is at none, and the CLOCK is setted near the "clock noise in the signal" point
So, it's a non-impossible work!
sorry for my bad english... I hope you understand what I wrote

Would it be possible to build the Deluxe Memory Man on Vero/Stripboard?,or would there be problems getting the circuit to function properly?,
just wondering if it is feasible at all...

The only problem I had was giving up on the layout
Should be okay i'd have thought though, Stephen Giles (Mainly posts at DIY Stompboxes) has probably done it on vero at some point.
Personally though... i'd wait till Madbean finished this... especially if it's gunna be able to use V3205 as that'll save time (of converting the original schematic as you go and the hundreds of track cuts on vero) and money of trying to find Unobtanium MN3005.
There was a thread though were 'Cpm' (I think that's the right user name) Begun converting the Memory Man to use the 3205 already, have a search (I think it might have been hidden in Madbeans Aqua Boy thread) so you could try putting that to vero.
Personally, I can't wait for this.

Yes, I agree. Don't take my little attempt at humor as a lack of interest. I'll be hot on the heels of this one too!
Thanks again Madbean.

I'm open to a v3205 conversion down the line if this works out. The power requirements are different, so it will take some finagling. But, I don't see any reason why it couldn't be made to work. I'm also thinking of a conversion to PT2399 with 2 chips of them in series to get around 800ms of usable delay. It won't be a DMM, obviously, but maybe it could get reasonably close. And, that would require no calibration at all
Anyway, the layout is done. It was a real PITA, but it's pretty good. I had to give up on the idea of board mounted pots, unfortunately. Here's a preview...I still have to make sure the schem is 100%.

Great looking layout other than that... Definitley no room in there for onboard Mounters?

I think CPM made quite a bit of head way with his conversion, i'll have to look for the thread again unless he chimes in here, that should hopefully take away some of the work for converting it.
Would these be production Dual Sided boards or Etch your own? I know we did the Aqua Puss boards already but I still think this would make a nice production project, I think there'd be enough interest to warrant if it could use either 3205s or 3005s.

That'd make a sweet etch your own project as a more complete package Echo Base, looking forward to that one too.

This is big. A very great day for fsb. Dirk(Ibanez OD pnp) and madbean have really come through today.
This pedal has always been one of the projects that is just beyond the abilities of us hobbyists.
Madbean's dmm pcb is going to be one of the brass rings of diy.
I feel like someone I respect has climbed Everest or something.
Oh man, I want to build my own box to get those tones from the early U2 albums.

Happy Columbus Day in the USA!

Thanks for the nice words, atreidesheir.
Here's a pic of the board for size reference. As you can see, there is still some wiggle room. I think the jacks should fit okay up top, but it will be a little close.

This gets cooler and cooler the more I watch Madbean's progress with this,I sooooo want to build one of these things...
Hey,I wonder how this would compare to something like the Roland Space Echo?....
You're doing an awesome job Madbean, can't wait to see the finished version...

Really nice stuff, are you gonna try to use the coolaudiochip?

The CoolAudio is not interchangeable with the MN3005. It's possible that the existing layout can be reworked for it, though. The v3205 needs about 5v to operate, whereas the DMM powers the MN3005 at -15v. I think the best way to go is change the voltage to 15-18v for all the other ICs and 5v for the BBD. Plus, the pinout is different on the v3205 so that has to be changed, too.
