Dirk Hendrik - Real Tube Screamer (1590bb) [documentation]

Posted here somewhere else already a while ago but belongs here somewhat. Tubescreamer with a starved plate distortion "engine"

all made to fit a 1590BB case smoothly.
And some pics:

Looks real nice.
I designed a one-tube tube pedal a couple years ago that should fit nicely in a 1590bb. Haven't built it yet. I used an op amp to drive a car radio tube, which is intended to be run at the lower voltages. Nothing wrong with starved plate or driving a starved plate tube with an op amp. It can really sound good if done right. I've been enjoying my pentode driver lately. It employs an op amp to drive 2 6ak6 pentodes.
Your build looks great. Would love to hear clips if you have them.

As far as I can see it is based on jack orman's tubedriver plus a ts tone control and an output buffer...
If you want to have an idea of the sound you can find some samples of the JO tubedriver here
http://www.diyitalia.it/index.php?optio ... 5&catid=53 (notice that the 100n cap before the tube has been changed with a 18n one because it sounded buzzy)
BTW Great PCB work

The rough schematic is not mine. It came through another project but I decided that one had too muck offboard wiring.
The Orman tubedriver comes straight from the BK butler tubesdriver.

Hi Dirk
I remember seeing this when you first posted it

- how about a diy project with schematic, layout and PCB tracks, so we can all have a go at building one - it looks really well laid out and could be a fun build.
cheers

Hmmm.
I'd say I started that post above with a PDF which pretty much contains all you want to know

I have already downloaded it a few months back
Sorry Dirk
So much going on here - forgot I already had the pdf and pictures.
I will build one for a Xmas present for myself - Grolschie will probably want it though
Thanks SO MUCH for sharing this EXCELLENT project with us all here.
This should be on everyone's building list

I think I will give this a go too. I remember that video of you playing it through a Sound City amp. It had a nice rhythm crunch - the sort of sound I like.

I'm gonna round up the parts for a build as well. I've always been curios about a tube under my feet.

Your build looks superlative. Don't be suprised if you get alot of hits on this!

Yes, that really is a quality build. Kudos to you! Any shots of it mounted in an enclosure?

You can call me over fifty, but eh.. I can't seem to find the power supply rating.. my guess it's 12-15V DC, or is it fine on nine ?
