Where do folk's buy their 1N34A's from ?
I've finally run out of the baggie I bought in a closing down sale about 15 years ago .
A quick search on Ebay only turned up lots of 10 for about $6 inc. post , This came as a bit of a shock.
I would prefer to get a bag of 100 .
Can anybody recommend a good source ?

musikding.de, 100 would be about €34 posted
They're a lot rarer than they were 15 years ago!
Ge 1n60p is a possible alternative (there are Ge and Si 1n60ps, be careful)

£16 total of which £6.60 was for 5 1n34a diodes!
they're black with a silver band tho, not glass like usual. does that make a difference?

Electronix express has 1n60s at $20.00 for 100. Not sure about shipping though. I thought I remembered a place that had 1n34as for $.15, but its not coming to me.

I just did a quick search. it says the modern shotekeys have D0-35 packaging. googled that and the data sheet looks fairly close.
The diode has these markings...

Maybe not. If the say 1n34a, they could just be some funky Ge diodes. Can you take a pic?

Just go to "upload attachment". See if you can put them next to a more common diode for scale. I just want to see the size.

Wow - Thanks for the response !
I'll be hanging out here a lot more , That's for sure !
The deal that IvIark posted seems to be the way to go (it did'nt come up in my 1st search).
Electronix Express has a minimum International order of $100 which is fair enough I suppose But, probably not very wise for Me at this time of year ( I have seen suppliers with $250 minimum International order ).
I probably should of mentioned that I'm in Australia.
DeanM - Over the years I have bought at least 4 very different looking diodes sold as OA91 (I'm not sure I recall any of them actually having anything printed on them ) Everything I have used them for has functioned as it should ( Well, AFAIK ! ).
I've always considered buying anything Germanium as ..Umm...Educational !

Is it normal that all germanium diodes cause this annoying "SSSSSSHHHHHHH" noise to sound? I tried some 1n270 clippers to ground on my MXR dst+ bredboard

got an email back from bitsbox.co.uk
He says their diodes are glass packaged but blackened and they are not the d035 packaging like shottkeys. they are much larger in the pic than the 1n4148s which are DO-35. and i think i can see transparency on closer inspection of the pics. so i'm happy enough the diodes in my pic are the right ones. what you guys think?

They are almost certainly Ge. I have never seen Shottkeys in that package. If the Vf is correct, I think you are probably in the clear. The reason I wondered, was because some sellers will try to pass off shottkeys as Ge's due to their similar Vf. That, and I have some shottkeys with blue package and a white stripe. I can't remember the model number at the moment.

speaking of the subject......I got a bunch of these a while back (with no markings as you can see)........any way to tell if they are germanium or something else?
Thanks,
Mike

If they have the proper voltage drop, I would say they are Ge. I have never seen anything but Ge's in that size clear glass package.
