Basically the knob is press-fit onto the shaft of a potentiometer which sits below the enclosure surface. My Taylor acoustic-electric has knobs like this, but I haven't been able to figure out where they might be sold to the general public.

The protruding profile is really shallow, about 5mm. I think knobs like this would work well on a small enclosure, because their overall height is lower than a depressed footswitch, so you could put them right next to the switch without fear of accidental bumping or breakage.

have you tried searching around for acoustic guitar knobs?

I also have a Taylor acoustic/electric with these knobs on and was thinking the same a while ago. They're quite attractive and you're right, would be hard to bump with your feet

Haha, I wouldn't have spent the effort creating a 3D model if I had been able to find it via a search. No luck at Google, nor through FSB or DIYSB's search functions.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Taylor has them custom made. They like to do that sort of thing.

Maybe this is a case for hard-core DIY.

Get a big bolt, and drill in a 6mm hole in the bottom up through the middle and tap a little hole in the side for a grub screw.

You've found what I consider to be the major hurdle in trying to DIY something like this.

Think about it. The entire shaft of the potentiometer is submerged inside the enclosure. How could you tighten a set screw? Maybe if you were really clever you could line things up so that the hole for a jack or something gave you a clear shot at a set screw, but that makes things harder when I was thinking of using the knobs to make laying out controls easier.

I haven't looked but I assume the knobs on the Taylor fit onto knurled shafts.

Use an allen key grub screw with a right angle allen key then! That could work.

True. Most enclosures would have enough space for that method. My problem is that I'm envisioning this style of knob in a 1590A size enclosure where space is really tight.

Maybe another possibility would be to use split shaft pots and drive a wedge in from the top to expand the shaft to grip the knob.

Have you tried contacting Taylor and talked to customer service about buying 'replacement' knobs?
