Wake up please we really need your support..thanks ..greetings from Peru
I finally find out how to solve it thanks to a submit report in tonepad:

Build Report: I built the callate gate 2 to the schematic and layout with a 2N5485 FET. When I tried it the output volume was reduced and the noise still present with no guitar playing (ie it did not work)
I fixed this by refitting the FET so that:
Gate remained in the same location.
Source was connected to the junction of 1M resistor and the 10uF capacitor
Drain connected to Vb (I linked the attenuation pot pads E-F)
This gave me a circuit which cancelled the noise when the threshold pot was set correctly with no guitar playing, but still left the problem of a drastically reduced volume when playing. This was solved by changing the 1M resistor connected between Q3 gate and attack/150k(Ra) to 1.8K this allows the gate of the FET to come down to zero allowing the FET to fully switch off.
Attack and Release pot pads I linked and Ra was replaced with a 47k resistor.
Now it works satisfactorily.

So, I guess tath the best choice is replacing every replaced component by a socket. Than, every transistors can be matched with their apropiate... biasing or something, 'don't know how to call it .
So, I'll try with different fets and tell what happens .

Another mod to do is to replace the *Ra resistor (the one that goes to Vb) to 470K... right now I'm replacing it... I'll keep you posted

Hello, built this gate from tonepad version1 layout but made some minor changes and it's working.Changes made were 10uf polarity reversed, changed output cap to 10uf,1uf(parallel to 100k)to 10nf,1M resistor (from FET gate to Q2 collector)to 1.8k and it's gating. My problem is the gate action seems like delayed in time maybe a second before closing. This is done by strumming and suddenly mute the string vibration.I decreased the threshold but still having this problem. Is this in connection with the 150k Ra?Can this be cured with the release mod?
Thanks
Thanks

Recently I was searching this schem. and I found a solution:
these changes seems like they might work.. you could try them. besides, the guy stated that these mods make the pedal work!
These mods are for the BF245C JFET. But it may work with stocks

Hello, I am in the same situation like Nikifena and marco.
I used tonepad schematics, without any mode (2n3904, J201) it seems work.
But I found slight fuzzy noise is mixed to the output signal.
I tried to isolate the problem and what I found till now is,
The clean signal path is no problem at all.
Gate on/off circuit itself is works it's function very well.
But you turn the threshold pot down, that means some of the clean signal directed to gate on/off circuit, then noise start to be generated from the clean signal circuit.
So the amount of this fuzzy noise is proportional to the threshold level reverse.
Any suggestion? Or you can check your build have the same problem.
Thanks!

Hi all,
i've recently builted the MXR Noise Gate by Tonepad without mods: http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=35
i've also change the 1M resistor -> 1K8 between Q3 and 150K resitor and the 680R resitor -> 4K7 resitor.
It works. But it filter too much.
What components i have to change to reduce the filter? This pedal reduce the noise too much even with the pot turned all left.
Really thanks for your patience.
Stefano

Built this a while back and don't remember too much, but do remember it being important to use matched transistors. I used 2n3904 and a 2n5952.
Wondered if I had these. The build reports for this pedal from Tonepad site. All the build reports seem to have disappeared for some reason or other.

I have the same problem: the clean signal seems to be distorted, and I think this is a filtering problem that we can fix changing the values of some caps, I'll verify today.
How did you figure out?
Bye!

Can anyone tell me how to add GATE LED to this circuit?
I'm searching too to add a gate led to this circuit...Did you do that? If yes, can you post the schematic of the gate led circuit please?
Thank you!
