I have an 80s model block logo MXR Noise Gate / Line Driver.
I can take gutshots in about 1/2 hour if you want.

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.

Sorry about the crummy lighting. It's dark out on the east coast, and my camera takes terrible flash photos.

Very good pictures.....
One picture frontal from the back of the XLR-jack (from inside the case) would make it perfect.
It appears to me that the violet wire is connected to pin 3 (middle lug) and the other 2 pins are connected together - but I am not 100% sure.

Perfect !!!
With this I can finish the schematic in the next couple of days.
BTW, your unit appears to be from summer 1980, but I couldn´t find any difference to the script-versions.
thanks again,
analogguru

I put up this tonepad pedal mxr noise gate, and he is not working correctly, you could post schematic correct?analogguru wrote:All schematics on the web concerning the MXR Noisegate are wrong including the one from tonepad. Referring to version 2 from 2003 (which I have on my HD):
- Input cap is in reality 10n input resistor 10k.
- The 10µ electrolytic between the 22k and the FET is drawn in the wrong direction - plus should be on the Fet-side.
- Output cap is 10µ instead of 1µ.
- the capacitor before Q2 in parallel to the 100k is a 10n instead of a 1µ.
The source of the FET is connected to U/2 and the drain to the 10µ electrolytic

I thank you for your contribution.

Yeah, that would be great! Even more, if someone could make an updated/corrected layout for it (although there much better solutions out there - but all of them as far as I know are much more complicated) - which could be based up e.g. on the Tonepad layout. Since such simple noisegate projects are pretty rare out there.

Input resistor is still the wrong value (1k) - should be 10k.
Input cap the same: the drawn 47nF is in the original unit only 10nF.
Output coupling cap the same: 1µF after the opamp should be 10µF to match the original unit.

^ hm, sorry.
I don't think, that 10k - 10nf and 1k - 47nf have a big difference. Also 47nf is better for bass responce (when bass guitar is using). Output cap can be between 1 and 10uF.
I make this noice gate, but I have one problem. When I play on low strings - A and E string I have some bad sound - like hrrrr or small overdrive.
I check everything with a scope. I have a clean signal after Q1, but after 22k between Q1 and next to fixed 10uf cap I have a scratched signal. I put 33pf between 1meg resistor in the feetback at IC1a, but this doesnt fix it. Also I change a few fets.
Any ideas how to get a clean signal at the output ?
