I honestly don't remember how it worked in the old one, it's been many years and many apps since then :)
Can you please refresh my memory?

i only used it a few times
on my pc at work, so I'm no expert. but, if you were doing a vero layout, it would highlight whatever nodes you made when you clicked on them, or maybe even when you just passed the cursor over them. honestly, I cant remember. but, it was the main thing that I liked about stripmagic that diylc didn't do.

oh I see, the new alpha highlights nodes when they are clickable (i.e. when you're creating new components). When I release it in a day or two you'll be able to check it out. Also, stretchable components (resistors, jumpers) are now created point by point instead of single click.
cheers

another exciting thing I'm working on is being able to open old files from v1 and v2. Won't be ready soon because I don't have all the components ready but moving into the right direction :)
cheers

Fixed some annoyances people reported in the meantime and it's ready for a new round. It also opens files from v1 but has very limited set of component it recognizes (trace, pad, resistor, cap and that's it :), but it's a start. Please don't report anything regarding v1 files because I know it sucks :)
Maybe the biggest change is going back to v1 way of creating leaded controls, with two clicks. Also, PDF scaling is fixed, exe wrapper is added for windows folks, mouse wheel affects zoom rather than scrolling, unit editor is fixed, annoying logs removed, trace mask export added, etc, etc.

Hope you like it.

As always, you can find the link here http://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-cre ... loads/list

Bane

awesome! excellent work! Love the adjustable grid/hole spacing!

I'm not sure if it's a good idea to use the mouse wheel for zoom. I'm so used to scrolling with it that I find it irritating that it's used for zoom. Maybe Ctrl+mouse wheel would be more appropriate. But then again this is an application that hardly needs any scrolling.

The components don't seem to fit into the menu - possibly because I'm on a mac? Here's a screenshot:

Thanks mate!
still not sure about wheel zooming, few people suggested so I went for it.
As for the menu, it looks so different on mac, can you post the full screenshot please?
Cheers

Hey all,
I put the new version up, same old http://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-cre ... loads/list

Changes include:
* fancy component creation system, d&d from the toolbox is still not supported, but it's still much better.
* bunch of bugs fixed (most of bugs reported by Paul F and a few I found myself)
* a couple of components added
* added "Lock layer" functionality
* added ability to unstuck components by holding ctrl

Cheers,
Bane

I downloaded the file but it won't start. I have a mac running OSX. I get a message saying "The jar file "diylc.jar" couldn't be launched. Check the console for possible error messages." Any idea what the trouble might be?
Thank's Johno

I'll see what it takes to downgrade to java 5. Steve Jobs is not a big fan of java, they haven't released version 6 for macs and java will soon release version 7. iPhones don't support java at all. Thumbs down for them
