So far, I haven't experienced any crashes....(hope I didn't speak too soon)......

It's fine in Windows, I just added more text than anything else and it still not crashes

A good sign, I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, sometimes you can run into problems running certain bits of software on a PC with a multi-core CPU, some recently released PC games like Battlefield 3 seem to have issues with multi-core CPUs, but I haven't had any problems so far, the latest DIYLC runs like a dream....
I'll have to expand the components library in my installation of DIYLC soon, would be cool to have components like the LM317T and LM337T adjustable regulators, which reminds me, I need to do a layout for a new breadboard power supply project that I would like to contribute to FSB....

does anyone of you have the java log file? not the one from logs directory, but from DIYLC root?
there seems to be a problem with mac and java
http://lists.apple.com/archives/java-de ... 00015.html
even some other apps suffer, like PDFBox
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PDFBOX-488
cheers

There isnt one! In DIYLC folder I have this:
Code: Select all
autoSave.diy
c/\saved.png
config.xml
diylc.exe
diylc.jar
diylc.l4j.ini
lib (folder)
library (folder)
log (folder)
run.sh
templates (folder)
themes (folder)
And then in the Log folder there are a bunch of log files but they arent error logs. File names are all like this:
Code: Select all
log-Wed May 30 12.56.57 EDT 2012.log

hmm, looks like on mac they put JVM logs in another dir, here's what I found
It creates a hs_err_pid*.log file (this comes from "HotSpot error" log). About the location of the file:
you can specify it by starting the java process with JVM param -XX:ErrorFile=some_path
if you don't specify it, the location is not very deterministic; the JVM prints something on STDOUT (usually the main error message), and the details are written to hs_err_pid.log file in the current directory, in the current user's temp directory (if no there are no write permissions for the current directory) or simply at stdout

unfortunately, I haven't done anything at all for the last 2-3 months. To many errands and work doesn't leave time for that

I just downloaded new version Bancika.
Two issues came to mind after few minutes.
- right click-rotate function does not work
- copper tracks can't be placed

Can someone with Mac give the new version a test drive? It should perform faster but more importantly, it shouldn't crash after 3min, at least I hope so.
Here's the link
http://diy-layout-creator.googlecode.co ... 0-beta.zip
Besides performance/reliability update, there are some usability improvements
[New Feature] Move selected components with arrow keys (and ctrl/shift)
[Improvement] Right-click in the toolbar to select all components of the same type
[Improvement] Click on a component in the toolbar sometimes doesn't register
[Improvement] Remove junk from BOM (eyelets, wires, traces)
[Improvement] Improved "Recently Used" toolbox, doesn't jump as you click
[Improvement] Control number of "Recently Used" items from config.properties
[Improvement] Faster component placement, auto-focus on "Value" box
[Improvement] Transistors can show name or value
[Improvement] UNICODE font export to PDF files
[Improvement] More intuitive unsaved file warning message
Thanks
Sinner, can you get the 3.10.0? I tried rotation and traces and both work. Rotation only applies to rotateable one-click components, like IC, trannies, pots...

Banchika, you can add this to the above list:
[major improvement] diylc.jar loads directly under Mac OS X
The previous version had to be loaded via a shell script

it does?

I still think you should use the script because it sets memory limit to 2GB, when you run jar directly it's only 64m and will slow down soon.
tnx

and another one:
[bugfix] placing images in a project no longer causes DIYLC to crash when running under OS X

actually, that's the reason I asked people to try, I made a major change that should prevent it from crashing. Many people complained and I couldn't figure out what was the problem until today. Here's the issue page
http://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-cre ... tail?id=20
If it works fine now I'm a very happy camper

Ill check it out on my mac later today, but ive never had to load it via shell script before. It always opened up direct.
My problems before were that text caused it to crash! As long as I didnt add any text it work fine all day, but if text was there it would start crashing. I got good at just making the drawing in DIYLC, and popping the image into photoshop to annotate.

I managed to crash 3.10.0 on Mac the same way (open diylc, create a bunch of components and copy-paste them 10s of times before it crashes). So I got rid of cloning library completely and switched to my own implementation. 3.11.0 is out.
PS now you can place images and labels in any z-order spot on the layout, so it's easier to draw over a photo of a board or pcb scan or something.
Cheers

I got the issue 10, so far I love it, I'll try to do some solid work with it today if time let me.
I have some ideas for you, but that's just silly things, small improvements I don't wan't to be PITA with.
Also, I was thinking to do small tutorial on my website about what I have learned using your DIYLC if you don't mind
Anyway, it rocks with current verson so far, and as always - I'm greatful you exist
Cheers

I'm trying to set the image backward with no succes. This makes things difficoult to me when trying to do the repro layout (all components and traces are under the image and it's inpossible to edit/move/rotate/whatever them without moving image)
