Hey folks...

Bought an EHX #1 Echo not too long ago. It didn't come with an adapter, and when I opened it up, I found the battery clip and wiring MIA. It has a standard 4-pin clip on the board to accept the clip on the battery wiring. The seller insisted that it didn't run on batteries and sent me an AC adapter, but I'd still like to get the battery clip if I could.

I suppose I could try to make one or just take a standard battery clip and solder it onto the connector on the board, but I figured it might be just as easy to try to find a replacement clip. Anyone have any ideas on how to get one?

Have you thought of contacting EHX, and seeing if they have any spares?.....

I checked EHX's site, but didn't see any place to order parts. In fairness, I'm somewhat hindered by the fact that I'm on a very slow dial-up connection, so if I don't find it quickly, I usually get frustrated and give up.

I may also try the local Guitar Center, since I believe they are an authorized EHX dealer.

Failing that, I can't see why you couldn't just solder on a battery clip, should work fine....

Yep. I have an adapter as well. The pedal is like new though, so I'd rather just replace the stock part if possible. I can't imagine it being too expensive.

The funny part is that the seller insisted it wouldn't run on a battery, when it clearly states on EHX's site and Musician's Friend that it does.

It's a nice little echo, BTW. Crank the feedback knob, put the guitar down... and it'll go for hours.

I'm also thinking about buying one of those Freeze pedals to screw around with. Of course, it's noise-maker pedals like that that have me shopping for a house right now.

I just went to thier web site and downloaded the instruction sheet. This was in it:

WARNING: Use only the US96DC-200BI adapter that the #1 Echo
comes supplied with. Do not use any other AC adapters. Using other AC
adapters, even those made by Electro-Harmonix, could cause harm to the
unit, the adapter or you. The #1 Echo does not use batteries.

That's strange... On MF's site, it says you can use a battery... Electro-Harmonix XO #1 Echo Digital Delay Guitar Effects Pedal

I can certainly be absent-minded and sometimes outright stupid... but at least I know I'm not completely delusional.

I was sure I saw a similar text description somewhere on EHX's site as well, but I don't see it now. I wonder if there are two versions of the pedal or something. Perhaps they decided to do away with the battery option after a redesign for some reason, but recycled the original boards (hence the empty 4-pin PS connector). I'll have to bust open another one of my EXH pedals and look to see if it has the 4-pin battery clip to try it out, just for the hell of it.

At least now I know the seller wasn't crazy. Of course, he didn't send me the "oh-so-critical" special EHX wall wart, either.

When I mentioned the missing battery clip, he said he forgot to ship the adapter and sent it out for me... but what he sent was a SoundSense ACA-120S (DC9V 250mA, neg. tip). It works fine though, despite EHXs dire warnings.

Maybe theirs uses some of those Cornish "special diodes" in the rectifier.

I just looked up the power requirements and all it needs is 9V @ 200mA w/ neg center.
MF site did give a little false info.

"Special Diodes", ie. *magic diodes*.....damn....this seems to invade every thread. LOL
All the information is so scattered, I just know I'm gonna miss it.
If only I had four of those, I could build my G2 properly. Mr. Gilmour's importance would
drastically diminish. I'll bet he lies awake at night worrying about that, too!
