BAJA Sagittarian Charger (mini KLON) [documentation]

a friend of mine blew up his sagi charger with a 12v adapter. i am going to attempt to fix this for him, but i had a few questions before i fire up my iron

firstly, with this build, a ICL7660S voltage converter was used, and its socketed with tl082 op amps

the zener diode and the 47uf cap attatched to 9v are fried. in fact the cap disintegrated when i pried it away from the vc socket.

is it likely that the chip is toast as well?? it seems to have gotten slightly seared on the side next to that blown cap. how do i test it exactly?

also what other parts would be affected by a blowout such as this?

never mind. i replaced a the 47uf cap and the diode with a 1n4742. this thing is awesome. too bad i have to give it back

but now i get to build my own! parts ordered yesterday, so i will try to keep this thread alive with some build pics!

Hello, with deep respect, didn't you notice small mistakes on the pcb?
Judging by the schematic, this is the correct binding of the dual potentiometer:

BTW. 390n cap & 1K resistor they should swap places according to the schematic & also diodes: zener protection diode (1N4742), silicon diodes (1n4001) & germanium diodes (1N34A) should be reversed!

germanium diodes doesn't matter how you put them once they are in antiparallel,same for 390n and 1k,no matter the position.
you can debate on the positive signs of the zener and 4001,but i did this circuit long time ago,correct at first try,same for the pots,i don't have the original documents but i guess it was specified how to orient diodes the right way

I thought and did the same until a good musician asked me what the matter was..

Well, if the GAIN pot is tied in the wrong way, when it is completely silenced to 0, pedal becomes muddy and does not give a characteristic Klon clean boost.
But, if tied in the right way it behaves identically to the original klon centaur!

So, the correct position means a lot! Friend, the position of these components means much more than whether it is a resistor "metal film" or carbon film!

Obviously you didn't test the pedal when you think it doesn't matter!

First, the layout of the silicon diodes (zener, 1n4001) is wrong, you don't draw graphs about that?!?
Second, the pin layout of the Gain potentiometer is wrong. That doesn't matter to you either?

Third, in my opinion not bad at all if the layout of the components (1k, 390n & 1N34A, ...) is followed as outlined in the schematic diagram, regardless of whether there are differences or not!

By the way, there is no difference if +Vb (4.5V) goes to the junction between P3A & 1k than to the 390n than to the P1A
and vice versa (+Vb goes to the junction between P3A & 390n than to the 1K than to the P1A)?!?

Going to try and to do this build, just finished reading the thread. Is everyone in agreement the layout is correct and gain pot is wired correctly?
