I don't think anyone has done a DIY project of the Metal Muff (yet).

Note the "Metal Rules" underneath the input jack.
Got the same on mine when I took it apart before I sold it.
I laughed

By the way... I really liked this pedal. Played several gigs with it in my old power metal band (we opened up for some cool bands, including In This Moment... if you're into this kind of sound that is... I'm not anymore).
My other guitarist played a Randall and then a Mesa Dual Recto, and I could hang with both of those using my MM and a Fender Hot Rod Deville  .
Funny world, huh?

Just updating the thread with the schematic again cause I changed names of folders in my photobucket account a while back and it destroyed all the links I posted to schematics etc.
:D

Verified? its a genuine Electro harmonix schematics dude.
I shouldn't even be posting it in its current form, it needs re-drawing to escape legalities.

You're absolutely right!. Metal Muff is indeed a Metal Zone rip off with fixed parametric mids. EH just added a Top Boost shit and removed the FET buffer. I never thought of it!!!Damn..

metal muff is just a clone of metal zone they just fixed the mid freq.control, the other"popular pedals" that are clone of the metal zone are DOD/digitech grunge(no mid and mid freq. control)death metal(same as grunge but with mid freq. gyrators and control added to the tone control)danelectro fab metal is a clone of grunge(with the bass control fixed at 3 oclock settings via a 75k and22k resistors instead of a pot and the tone contol in the middle is just for treble) a couple of danelectro, yesarov, etc.etc, so why they sound different the answer lies on the components used(ic's capacitors, pots and resistors)they are just "Sons of a goddamn metal zone" with different personalities.

:hmmm: So, you're saying I could mod a Metal Zone to be like a Grunge? Definitely an improvement!
People love to hate on the Grunge, but I could be stuck with only one of those to use at a gig and be able to get by just fine. They can actually do a sorta okay Marshall-ish crunch with the gain down. And they clean up well. I remember my band in high school would do some Alice in Chains stuff, and I was able to fake the sound pretty decent with a Grunge. I mean, that's what it's meant for, right?

Hi guys, any chance of a layout for this?

I played it today and it kicks most amps straight out of the water  we compared it with the Bugera for fun :applause: the MM completely murdered it

I'm not an electronics engineer but how can the MM be a an MT-2 when the schematics show the MM has 4 x 4558 opamps, 6 x MMBT 5962 bi-polar transistors, and the MT-2 does not? MT-2 doesn't even have as many opamps and transistors as MM. Did I go blind again?

I would assume that the Diugitech Grunge is the SMD version of the FX69B...

analogguru
If the Digitech Grunge is the SMD version of FX69 then Digitech Death Metal could be the SMD vesion od FX86B.
Just to say I owned a Digitech Death Metal few years back and I opened one, interesting thing was that the same pcb was used for both.
It was printed on pcb Digitech Grunge/Death Metal. If any one has it, you could see it below the pedal cover when changing batteries, there's a switch and through hole around the switch you can see what's printed!

So any guts for Metal Muff?

:thumbsup

when The Sword played at my club both of the guitar players were playing through metal muffs. i found it rather surprising- they had great tone. not what i would expect from a metal zone clone.
