For a tube based pedal running on only 9V, it sounds surprisingly good, I expected it to sound really gated, wouldn't mind buying one of those kits....

Mmmmmmm.....
At first sight, judging for the components included in this kit, I guess that is merely a valvecaster but with the addition of a preceeding stage with a fet booster.
Count the parts in that picture:
Also, several users reports that achieve best sound after replace the tube with a 12AU7 (ECC82 in Europe), same as the valvecaster.
The funniest thing of this kit is that they provide the battery clip...
The heater inside this little fella, that normally use 12,6 V and 150 mA, take 127 mA @ 9 Vdc, so a fresh 9 volt battery must drop dead in the middle of a rehearsal...
