Got this as payment for modding a pedal. It sounds really good, and it doesn't seem to mess with the bypassed signal much at all (if any). Stereo in and out is nice to have. The modulated reverb setting is very usable.

I believe this uses the same PCB as the FX100.

It's got a CoolAudio V1000 at the core, which is a clone of the Wavefront/Alessis AL3102. The controller is Atmel Atmega8. There are also two TL064 and one 4558 op amps on board. And a few other ICs I don't recognize.

If the two pcb are identical, how come the dr100 is such a good sounding pedal and the fx100 is total crap. I love the sound of my dr100! I felt sorry for the guy who bought my fx100 for something like 12$.

Can it be reprogrammed? It could be a cheap host for some experiments...

Only problem with the dr100 how ever is the feel when you touch it!

I think the difference is how the controller is programmed. It is what selects and controls the programs in the V1000.

I agree that the DR100 sounds really good.

im really curious to what code is on that atmel8 the dr100 is supposed to be a clone of a boss rv-5. wonder if there is a way to read the code off the chip. any ideas?

All that digital hocus-pocus is beyond my meager understanding of anything. I think I read somewhere that the code on the controller can be encrypted, so it's likely there is no direct way to grab the code and recycle it. Also, for the price they want for it, I'm not sure it's worth the effort.

I believe one of those ICs is an EEPROM, which will contain the actual reverb code. The Atmel code will handle loading custom programs from the EEPROM into the V1000.

there's quite a chance you can hook up a standard 15 dollar USB to AVR programmer to the Atmel and read the code. Happy cloning.
