... will yield a sale. I just got this in for repair. It's a Big Cheese clone. Gloppy solder, spaghetti wiring, cold solder joints, lifted traces, egads it is AWFUL...

I've seen worse than that in some Pro manufactured stuff.... :D

The inside of the pedal is signed and says "guru-electronics.co.uk", a site that apparently no longer exists...

That PCB looks like someone has been trying to use a rusty nail as a soldering bit, way too much heat and solder in my opinion.... :D

Hey now!

Sean's recent stuff looks really awesome. And that's because a machine in Asia (most likely) did all the work.

HEY!!! Do not criticize sloppy soldering. You could badly bruise someones fragile ego.

Agree. It sugests it has been soldered with a soldering gun.

You know, ever since I graduated to my 100 Watt Temperature Controlled Soldering Station, I haven't produced a single dry solder joint, all my soldering joints have been good and shiny so far, the Soldering Station cost me a bit but it was well worth it, I saw a vast improvement over my previous 48 Watt Soldering Station.... :D

I've scored my temperature controlled station for something around of $30. It's made in China Zhaoxin 936D and it was the best $30 I've ever spend on DIY equipment. Still works after 2 years :)

Back ontopic,
Barcode says this is a repair job on his bench. This means that when the thing fails again due to the poor quality of the original there's quite a chance the Barcode will be held accountable for the failure. Those repairs are annoying. You more or less inherit the poor qual of a wannabe bootweaker.

I totally agree, which is why I try to repair things so that they look almost brand new, I go to great lengths to make sure I use the right parts too, basically, when I repair something, I want to make it look like it has never gone faulty, and you're unable to see if it has ever been "'worked-on" before..... :D

I've seen lots of examples of "bodged" repairs.... :D

But still, shouldn't we stay cool and give this thread a proper title?

You have a point there though, modman.... :D

Maybe we could run an informal competition to see who can come up with the best title, can be serious, not-so-serious, funny, risque, or maybe a mixture of all that thrown together in a pot...

I mean like: 'Guru Electronics - Big Cheese clone' in that way other people coming across the same unit can find this thread...
especially since the website is down.
