Can anyone ID the maker of the small maroon cap that landgraff uses? It's a 51 or 56pf, looks like some kind of ceramic. I originally thought it was mica but the finish is different that most of the micas I've seen, which have a dipped plasticy finish. But all the ceramics I've seen are round. In the pic, the cap in question is below the chip and the the left of the big yellow 1uf.

It looks like a mica to me.
Honestly, if you're trying to get the same sound, it shouldn't make any difference, because that cap isn't in a position, nor is it of a value, where its composition should have any impact on the subjective tone. It's used to reduce gain at ultrahigh frequencies to reduce chances of oscillation and promote stability - it's not a tone-shaping component.

I've been using a mica cap in tube screamers but it's hard to find any as small as those. My impression was that that cap helps smooth out the corners of the clipped wave in addition to doing what you said-

I was thinking maybe a mylar or some other kind of film too, because I have a bunch of little brown ones that look kind of like that, but I've never seen one in a value that small.

I think a ceramic would be A-Ok there. If you feel guilty about ceramic, you can always use one of those primo quality 1Kv ones. High voltage ceramics are nice - it's those low voltage junky ones that make me sad.

.
Neither have I so I do not know if they exist (with such small values) but they sure look like them. Perhaps polystyrene film caps in a similar package?

Is this the Dynamic Overdrive? or a pic from that Dual version?
Didn't original TS just have ceramic anyways?

We might merge with the big thread.

The pic is from my Dynamic OD, not sure what an original 808 had but i would guess it's ceramic.
