MN3005 genuine or not?

Posts on strange stompboxes on ebay, old amps from a garage sale, new boutique businesses, great deals, all these topics go in here.

What are the odds these are real?
The one in the pic looks ok, unsanded etc.
Chances any others are kosher?!

It's impossible to tell, but short leg length would indicate a fake. The legs on the MN3005 are just a hair longer than some other ICs, IIRC. It at least looks like some kind of MN variety, but who knows which one it actually is.

As bean said, no way to know, could be 3008s rebranded, might not even get chips like the ones in the picture (it's a good idea to as to see the chips you'll receive before you purchase).

Nearly £15 per chip with postage... probably not worth the risk.

Crapshoot at best. Doesn't look sanded/blacktopped, markings appear legit, it does say used (legs could have been shortened in the pulling/cleanup process), one buyer left a + (but did he really test it?). That's the good.
The bad. 2 words. Hong Kong. On reputation alone I wouldn't bother. Not all HK sellers are bad, but their rep is well documented.
Get Sm.Bear's "mis-marked" 3005 fakes. Same amount of delay for cheaper AND a seller with an excellent reputation.

I've bought a MN3005 from this seller a few months back. I emailed him ahead of time and told him that I was well aware of the counterfeit MN3005's that were running around. I wanted him to assure me that these were the real deal. He replied that they were. They are "pulls" salvaged from karaoke machines. The reason I showed interest in this seller, is that he had a group picture showing quite a few 3005's with different serial numbers.

When I received the chip in the post, I slapped it in my AD-80 build and I got the proper 300 ms delay. So, I had no problem with this seller. I hope this helps.

Definitely real. I bought one to test and it was good so I bought another 5, probably should have bought more.

I can verify this now too, just built up my FSB v1 board Auqa Puss and it sounds lovely.
Need to tweek the feedback resistor to get some runaway repeats, but I socketed it.

Otherwise, Im hearing the same kinda delay time as an original (based on youtube) with the clock trim around 12pm.

Thanks

Hi,

I bought two mn3005's of the same seller.
They arrived today. 1 is good the other is not working at all.

The sellers account was already removed by Ebay when I wanted to get in contact with him today.

Any of you know about this.

Thanks

The seller is paul_freejazz. I bought another 3 on Tuesday, got the email saying he posted them and now he's gone from eBay. Fingers crossed I get my ICs, I've bought 6 from him in the past and they were all genuine.

If he's closed his ebay account getting a paypal refund should be trivial.

Same with me - I bought 8 in total, and one is bad, the rest are fine though. When I finally got around to testing them, I found his account was closed. How does one go about making a claim? Do you think Paypal would even do anything about it?
