Mesa Road King Footswitch... HELP!

So I need to be able to switch between two channels on the Road King without using the enormous foot switch. Only channel 1 and 3 are used, so I don't need all the extra switches. From the looks of the attached schematic (Page 11), it looks like the switch shunts to ground.

However, wired up a SPDT switch with ground wired to the common lug and the leads from channel 1 and channel 3 on the outside lugs, with LEDs in series as indicators. The LED's light up fine, but the channel doesn't switch.

So either there is a specified current needed that the LEDs are sapping (not likely, since the factory switch has LEDs powered from the amp) or there is more circuitry in the factory switch. Anyone familiar with the switch internal workings or have one they could pop open and post pics of?

That's what I AM using. I have the SDPT wired to a stereo jack. sleeve is wired to common on the switch, tip and ring are wired to the outer lugs of the switch. Using a TRS cable plugged into the switch which I've then split into two mono cables, one plugged into each channel's external select jack.

I was thinking that might be the case. Crap, I guess I'll have to power them separately...
