Hi,

I came into posession of an old, australian? "Philips" amp. I think it's an audio/PA amplifier.
Two 12AT7 in the pre (but one of them should be a 12AX7, according to the little piece of paper attached to the OT), and two EL36 PP output, fixed bias in penthode mode (VG2 = 150v).
I'm planning to totally ditch the pre, setup some very basic Gain / Tone / Volumen, use the output section more or less as it is, and rehouse it.
I couldn't found much info on this tube (the 6CM5 / EL36), but for some multi-tube (4 ) PA's.
Any info on a guitar amp using this (or simmilar) tube would be very welcome. I'll post pictures and the schematic of the output stage as soon as I can get my hands dirty (and looking at what I got, they will)

sounds interesting, I love pa amps. how many watts?

Here is the Mullard datasheet for the EL36

looks like 14.5w.

I love obsolete devices!

14.5w for a couple in push-pull in self bias.
But the examples I've seen quote around 30 / 40w for two in PP with fixed bias. (In full class B, not AB)

The amplifier I got is 40w.

You could probably make a nice little Blues combo amp with the chassis, check out the AX84.com website for amp projects and schematics....

DrNomis, the chassis is awfull... that's why I'm thinking in rehousing.
This is what I'm planning to use, for a neat retro-mini-header look: (It is an old voltage regulator)

Very cool, I love the retro look of the housing you're planning on using, it'll look even more retro if you use black pointer ("Chicken-Head") style knobs, but you might want to use other style knobs, looking forward to seeing a pic of the finished amp...


I checked out the schematic you posted, I'm not sure if you're going to wire up the parts as per the schematic, or maybe re-design it, but it looks like you should be able to get some nice clean tones out of it....cheers for posting the pic, schematic, and links.....
