Help with which way componets go onto a veroboard

Ok, you got your soldering iron and nothing is going to hold you back, but you have no clue where to start or what to build. There were others before you with the same questions... read them first.

Hi

I am a serious noob and am just about to embark on my first project. I have noticed that on the veroboard layouts some of the components are writen up or down as you can see in the pic and i was wondering what is the difference and which way is which. im guessing one is possitive and the other negative and if this is the case which end is which.

cheers

Some components are polarised, and have to be place in the right orientation.
Most are non-polarised, and therefore it doesn't matter which way they go.
Usually (hopefully) the direction is noted if it matters on a layout, but the way the component number is marked is irrelevant.

The 2 capacitors shown in your example are non-polarised and can go in either direction.
