thanks. looks like it would work great after a fuzz!

The first two stages will work rather poorly. The 1M resistors should be from base to collector of each transistor (for "current biasing"), but might need to be increased to 1M5 or even 2M2. You'll also want to put a small value capacitor (47 - 100p) from base to collector of the first transistor to stop it picking up your local AM station.
The principle of the control is interesting, but the range of control will be disappointingly small. If you want to go the passive route, the "James" configuration gives most bang for the buck!

I think providing you shield it like any audio circuit i doubt there would be rf interference and also with the range it depends what bandwidth your wanting. You can't say that it will be bad it depends what someone wants from it.

well, I was more giving some good natured ribbing than anything

, but you are right, the transistors are biased pretty terribly. if I tried this thing, it would be with a different arrangement. there is actually a Japanese patent somewhere that is similar, but I think a bit more interesting. I had it drawn in my old notebook, but lost it. I'll see if I can find it to post. I tried it out once, and it worked pretty well. not as flat as the bax, but not as lossy either.
I'd like to hear both of your opinions on the TC in the stromberg carlson schematic I just just posted in my DIY home stereo thread. it looks a bit different from your normal baxandall.

i can't read the schematic the values aren't clear to be able to read them. If you can get me a clear schematic i will definately tell you what my thoughts are on it cheers
