The Zoom G3 is the latest multi effects processor by Zoom, and it is surprisingly decent. Its there take on the Line 6 M series I think. Figured I will post the guts, I had it opened trying to do a tap tempo jack connected tot he little tempo button, it did not work, it must be sending some kind of different momentary signal? Anyhow here are the guts :)

Heard lots of good things about this unit.

Get your 'scope on the tap tempo connector see what's going on!

Build quality looks decent, especially on that XLR connector. I'm always surprised it's economically viable for Zoom to have their own DSP chips made though; what sort of volumes do you think they're selling at?

I think they are huge in Japan, and other country's besides US, even still I bet they do rpetty good in the USA even Guitar Center now carries the G3, which is new for Zoom before only Sam Ash carried them IIRC

Replying to an old post, I know.

Here is a link to the ashbass Tap Rhythm Mod page. I made an external pedal to house the TAP and RHYTHM buttons. If OP hasn't solved his problem already this might be just what he needs. The Patch Select mod is pretty cool too.

oh Dude yeah that is EXACTLY what I was trying to do :applause:
So I assume an expression pedal may be used at the same time?

Yes. I have the FP01 and this nifty little expression box as well as another expression box for switching patches. All works great.

I'll have a youtube video up later today for the Tap Rhythm Mod. There already is one for the Patch Select Mod.

I have to admit that Zoom have come along way since the days of the Zoom 9002, I happen to own a Zoom G2 which I think is a pretty versatile little device, editing the preset sounds on it is as simple as tweaking the knobs, much like on an analog stompbox, the big plus for me is that you can switch the cab/mic simulator on or off, I use my Zoom G2 with my 300Watt Behringer K3000FX Keyboard/P.A. amp because the amp has a flat frequency response..... :thumbsup

I changed the Zoom folder name from 'ZoomG3' to just 'Zoom' since I'm now onto the G5.

None of my links got broken but I didn't' realize the pages were linked to from so many other places.

New URL: http://ashbass.com/AshBassGuitar/Zoom/

Thanks for noticing!

Great work man, I just did the tempo tempo mod, but with a 1/4" jack mounted to the side. :applause: :applause: :applause: So nice man.

Will the same concept apply to the Line 6 M9?

That piece of film foilly looking thing attached to the top screw, touching the backplate, is that were the whole unit grounds to enclosure? If so why since there are so many jacks grounding also? Or do they not actually touch?

thanks again :applause:

Does the G5 have delay and reverb spillover?

Great to hear about your Tap mod. Can I have a picture of it for my User Examples webpage?

Spillover. Not for me. Unless I'm doing something wrong. I have a delay setup for multiple repeats and hit a note. It starts to repeat. When I turn off the delay, the note repeats stop.

I don't know about the Line6 but the same concept should apply once you settle on what wires/solder spots do what.

The copper tape is an odd way of doing grounding, I agree. I have no idea as to why.

Yeah thats no spillover :slap: Which is the reason I own an M9 and a G3 :slap: M9 has the great spillovers, the G3 has better verb (HD) and better delays n(besides M9 analog with mod ;)

Yeah man, I can post a pic later on probably.

Hi .I made the external patch up and down mod with a stereo out jack.I have a problem.I see that the patch up and down and the tap tact switches are not corresponding.I have the 2.00 firmware.Do you have a solution for that?

Did you use the ver2.0 instructions?
