Hello fellow members,

A good friend of my younger brother's gave me three stompboxes, a Proel Wah-Wah, an Arion SMM-1, and a DOD FX58, I'm particularly interested in getting the FX58 working properly, it's making sound, but, the footswitching isn't working like it's supposed to, just wondering if anyone has a schematic for the FX58, I've looked online but have had no luck so far....any help at all much appreciated.... :thumbsup

The switching scheme for all DOD's (except the really old junk) is the same. Therefore any DOD schem should answer your question.

Cheers Dirk,

Would something like the DOD FX250 be close enough?, the reason being is that I'm suspecting a bit more than just the footswitching being at fault, although it seems to sound okay, I think I'm getting some intermittent signal bleed-through, so I want to give the pedal a good service.... :thumbsup

I've just learnt that the DOD FX 58 is based on the DOD FX 56, with some component value changes.... :hmmm:

Cheers Dirk, you've been of immense help to me mate, I'll have to do something nice for you one day, like shout you a beer or something.... :thumbsup

Now all I need to do is download/install the driver software for my HP P1005 Laserjet printer and I'll be in business.... :D

Please. No more beer after yesterday night. My liver needs a rest.

But,
The whole IT world seems to be heading towards constructions where all data is "online" and accessible by "your system". No more hard drives in that system et al since "it's online". That may apply for MP3's movies and other consumer data but in a case like this it means "I'm sure I saw this and that somewhere..." and when searchin you cannot find it or it was removed/deleted/expired. Therefore still when it comes to stuff like schematics one cannot beat the locally stored library where you save something as soon as you run into it.
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

I had some problems with the drive channels bleeding through onto the clean channel on my laney tube fusion amp. After some investigation it turned out to be the gates of some of the switching fets not being pulled low enough to fully gate them off. Could be something similar in your case too, tracing through with the scope should pay dividends.

I'm with you one hundred percent there Mr. Hendrick! My computer is now loaded down with various amp and effect circuit diagrams. Most of them I'll probably never need but I have a compulsion to download them just in case... They're even starting to fill up my mobile phone now too since I started browsing on that too.

Which is another reason for me looking for an FX58 schematic, I've got both a scope and signal-generator set up on my workbench, so I'm going to get to work on it tonight and see what I can do to get my FX58 working like it's supposed to, might post the details in the workbench section for the benefit of others.... :thumbsup

Cheers for the advice, most helpful.... :thumbsup

Same here. In many cases having the schematic of an item closely related (like same manufacturer, different model) to the thing you're repairing is an incredible help already.

Totally agree with you there Dirk, there's nothing worse than trying to fix something and finding out that a schematic is either impossible to obtain, or costs an arm and a leg when you can find one, I really can't understand why some manufacturers have to be so coy about some of their products, my other pet peeve is something called "Planned Obsolescence", you probably know what that means.... :hmmm:

Ok, I think I know what's causing my FX58's footswitching to malfunction, it appears to be the little micro-switch underneath the foot treadle, tried measuring it with my multimeter set to a medium resistance range, sometimes it measures open-circuit when pressed, sometimes 0 Ohms when pressed or not, so deffinitely iffy, Led changes state intermittently, sometimes I have to press down very hard on the treadle to get it to change state at all.... :hmmm:

Note, this may not be the most appropriate thread section for this to be in so moderators can shift this if need be..... :thumbsup

Hello, just been searching a lot for a schematic for the DOD FX 58 Metal Maniac pedal...

mostly the off-board wiring portion.

Any help would be awesome!

Thanks,
Kaleb

Do you have any pictures of the board to offboard wiring.

I was re-enclosing mine in a different enclosure, and now I'm getting the LED to light up, but the switch isn't working and the signal isn't going through.

I'm assuming I have a wire crossed somewhere or the switch broke, but if I can factor out the wiring, then I can just replace the switch.

Thanks,
Kaleb

Watching this thread with interest. I've just purchased (for a song - $10!) the world's most ugliest DOD FX58 - no idea if it works or not and I'm thinking of doing a few mods to it to make it sound a bit better.

Check this out - have you ever seen an uglier pedal?

 Well, the original flash yellow wasn't so nice, but this.... btw you still have the battery door, and that's good for old dod pedals.

I had one of those (a present) and hated it. It's incredible that I sold it (for money!!) to a bassist (some of them likes the maniac).

Right now I have an american metal that's not bad at all. The board should be the same (go to americaspedal.net for schematics and board pictures), and so converting it should be quite easy.

Is this the definitive Grunge pedal?
