Hi,

I've built a Madbean DirtBag Deluxe with v3205s and I've got the bug and am keen to build an MN3005 version - but am clueless as to where to start trying to find some legit MN3005s - does anyone have any recommendations?

Short answer, no reliable verified source, use small bear fake 3005s for half the delay time or 3205s unless you want to waste money or spend a lot of money.

I wonder where the people that are building their MN3005 versions managed to get them from!

I was wondering, if many of the ones that are still being sold are karaoke machine pulls, why not buy old karaoke machines and pull them yourself?
We just have to know which ones carried the MN3005s and how many chips were in each machine (to calculate how much it's worth spending for one).

I considered this, in the U.K they're not that prevalant so it would probably be an expensive ebay adventure or a lot of wasted time.

If you can get hold of some free ones then yeah it might be worth a shot, but I imagine in China etc. they have a lot of the waste products.

Don't forget all the time you're gunna have to spend researching, finding stuff, pulling it apart, being dissapointed, doing it again, disposing of all the stuff, alot of waste.

Most people on beanpedals got lucky on an ebay supplier that did have some karaoke machine pulls, going cheap too but as people start buying the prices went up and then people started getting ripped off with so called 'refurb' chips.

That or they already had some, bought them from suppliers like UTsource (sometimes they get it right, again expensive) got some from other members or found a local shop that had some from the 80s left.

Every way is going to be expensive or risky or both.

Just to clarify the ebay source who sold the refurbs also did sell genuine used chips (Paul Free Jazz aka Funkward Tech). He immediately refunded me when I advised him the refurbs were bogus. I would not classify this as a ripoff as I got my money back and not sure why anyone else wouldn't. Not sure if he was trying to pass off fakes purposely or not, but he gave me a refund without issue, so I would try him again if I were desperate, but definitely not for "refurbs". However, the price is way higher than it was before. I thought about buying some for my DBD, but $70 for a pair is steep ATM.

Has anyone ripped appart an old organ and scored BBD's?

I believe some old Lowrey organs used them, but I could not say which ones and how many per organ. In my area, old organs can be found on craigslist for ~$50 or even just for free because people want to get rid of them. I would imagine these are a lot easier to find in the US cheap than old karaoke machines.

I doubt Organs used 3005s but I could be wrong, I got some TCA350Y BBDs outta a lowrey from the chorus section... did the organs have long delays?

And I do think he knowingly sold them from what people said, he was saying that they weren't cosmetically acceptable so were refurbished which to me sounds like an excuse for why they looked wrong.

If I knew that i'd have a stock of MN3005s

I imagine the reason people were getting them from ebay is they were primarily used in chinese machines and they have all the boards that were chucked.

People could just... use 3205s? or even 3008s?

Here is the website with a lowrey parts list that I found a while ago when I read about folks scavenging from organs. The site lists the MN3005, no notes about where it was used, but it piqued my curiosity.

I'm sure they were used around, you can probably find the odd one in stereo equipment, surround sound equipment, organs etc. but I don't think it'll ever be worth the effort going through a lot of dead end purchases and electronics destruction.

So, let's try to compile that list:

many karaoke machine's I've had the luck to have a peek into (for no other reason than "which BBD") contained 3007's stretched to the max.
