Some great work by Krusen, which I thought deserves a separate thread.

Did someone trace a readable schematic from this drawing ???

Thanx

If the drawings are nearly correct, than this unit is a piece of sh*t. Don´t waste your time and money on a clone of that.

these guts let me assume that they could be correct:

i think the sound saw sounds great, and am definitely going to give the circuit a try. i used to think it was a silicon bass/treble booster combination, will give it a try.

what do you have against it, AG?

what exactly does make this unit a piece of shit?

i see some amplification and freq cut

yeah, its crude, but it shapes things, ain't that its function?

Really, I don´t have time and interest to engage in every point in detail.
Maybe somebody else has more time for it.

It starts with the "volume controls" which are nothing else than loading the guitar until the signal is totally shorted.

No temperature compensation in the amplifier stages, no dc-decoupling....

The only thing in common with electronics is the use of electronic components.

it's a lo-fi effect meant to make a lot of noise and mangle things up. it's not a holy grail or a germanium mojo thingy. and it is certainly not intended for use by tone purists to go with their dumble clones.

i think we're getting a little carried away here. no offence, AG, but i don't see why we need to make a travesty out of this. some of us actually like this sort of stuff, y'know.

Once upon a time people didnt want distortion in their guitar amplifiers either.

Everyone has different taste. Not everyone wants a "perfect" sound, and thats fine. Some want their sound mangled, mashed up, and spit out...thats fine too.

Sometimes "bad design" yields good / desirable tone...remember the "death amps" ? Horrible design, great tone...if you want some distortion from your tube amp.

...i think i'm going to ignore that last comment.

argumentation is something i welcome, downright immaturity and insulting attacks are things i wouldn't normally expect from a respected community member. just goes to show how much you know...

sorry, AG, but that was both disappointing and seriously uncalled for.

I wouldn't take that as an insult. He wasn't telling you to eat shit, its more like he's making a point, similar to 'if everybody jumped out of a window...'. Albeit, in cranky AG style...

Downright immaturity and insulting attacks are par for the course with AG, don't take it personally.

you beat me to it :D

i'm swamped in thesis work at the moment, so i probably won't be able to give it a shot for a while. will definitely post again if i do.

EDIT: wow, this isn't what i thought it was. i thought it would be a combination of a hog's foot and a screaming tree run in parallel or something. intriguing!

here are some gut shots of the sound saw that i recently purchased. im not a builder but as i was examining it for apparent issues (the guy who sold it to me claimed it was broken...not actually the case :)) i figured i would take some pics for anyone who is interested in building a clone of it.
