DId some kits. simple perf board for beginners?

Ok, you got your soldering iron and nothing is going to hold you back, but you have no clue where to start or what to build. There were others before you with the same questions... read them first.

Hi everyone. I just want to build some pedals. I am a self employed carpenter remodeler with two kids and I am putting my wife through school. In other words, I have no business being on the internet trying to build guitar pedals.

I have lurked on and off on here and a couple of other forums and I really really want to take the plunge. I got an older o-scope the other day, I have made an audio probe, I have a hakko iron and have done a couple of BYOC kits.

What I am looking for is a few different beginner builds that come "ready to build" from a parts supplier. Two knob fuzzes, micro amps etc.

My question though is, I want to build the most "verified" circuits of all times (even if that means a tube screamer from scratch!) so that the more that information that is available about each single component and how those individual components combine into "building blocks" or "mini-circuits" within the circuit the better.

I want to start with some perf board builds because I get perf board. I have read some threads about vero and I am just not up to speed on that stuff yet. I understand perf board (I think) and I am just ready to get cussing mad at some circuits. Kits are cool. I have done some mods and even a little bit of trouble shooting.

My soldering skills are ok and my time is very limited so I am ready to start banging my head and learning "how it works".

I am not really interested in kits. I want simple circuits that are thoroughly, completely and exhaustively explained in minute detail so that I can gain the maximum amount of DC electronics knowledge in the minimum amount of time.

I figure with some really well explained and thoroughly laid out perf board ready kits, I can find all the answers via the search function, google or just scanning old threads.

So I guess my two main questions are

1. what are some super standard and easy "all in one" ready to order kits that come as a total complete kit, perf board, pots, hammond enclosure, parts etc.

I want to use perf board and convert verified schematics to perf because it will force me to figure out how the components work and go together, crash course in schematics symbols, where circuits split and why, what the building blocks are that do what to the circuit etc.

2. What kits are provided and what are the parts providers?

Or more specifically, if I pluck a verified schem off the internet and email it to someone at a parts supplier, will they give me every single individual component and item I need to throw together a perf board build of that schematic?

I am sure you guys get this thread once a month at least. I hope that one of you will understand where I am coming from, have a little bit of pity and point me in the right direction.

I have looked at all of the big forums and the only one that has a true blue "beginners project" that can be ordered as a complete kit isnt being offered right now.

Again, I dont want to use PCB, I want to build it on perf board simply because I want to get started. Once I understand more of what I am doing then I will get into etching and pcbs and stuff. I figure if I can figure out how to trasnsfer a schem to perf board then I can build pretty much any od or simple modulation pedal I want. and thats all I am really interested in.

And yes I am utterly psychotic. I want to do perf board and perf board only for at least my first 10 builds. I am self emplyed for a reason! :blackeye

Thanks friends. If you have any general carpentry questions then I will be glad to offer my assistance!

I know of no such animal - a complete kit with perf instead of an etched board. Why not just order what you need online for a bazz fuss variant? Joe Gore's piece here does a really nice job of explaining what each component does and walks you through a few mods.
... multiple LFO waveforms (saw up, saw down, triangle, square); a more flexible envelope with attack/release controls as well as inverted envelope. I am afraid it will have more knobs than the TGP annual convention - frequencycentral

Thanks for the link. It looks like its informative. Seems like its got simple to more tweakable builds of the same schem.

Thanks!
