Well I got mine working and sounds pretty good. As of right now Im running a 18vac 1amp power supply and it still has the 2watt 33ohm resistor. Im waiting on some 5watt 39ohm resistor in the mail and some tubes as well. Im hoping it will sound even better once I get those items inthe mail. I did find a 16vac 1.2ma pack but some how I fryed it. The pedal was ok but the pack was gone. So I went Ratshack and bought the 18vac and it seems to work fine. Thanks Bajaman for this great project. I'll post pics soon. Thanks again.
Paul

Hi Bajaman,I just got my PCB in the mail this afternoon, and I must say that I am very impressed with the quality of it,can't wait to start work on construction of it,once it is finished and it is confirmed as working,I will post some pics up and a list of diagnostic voltages and some scope screenshots, for the benefit of other constructors... :)

Please keep those great projects coming... :thumbsup

I have recently built this and it worked right away! A little mushy sounding on low voltages i.e. 9vac and ok on 12vac! i have yet to try this on a 16vac power supply, which i think will yield great results! One thing though, this monster is shedding too much treble! How can i tame this?

Thanks bajaman for a really cool and fun project! :applause:

Sorry, what i meant was, this thing puts out a lot of treble. how can i decrease this?

My apologies for not being online lately, but I'm back...with a vengeance.....

Anyway,I built my Real Tube Overdrive last week, and guess what....it worked correctly straight away,I had no technical problems whatsoever with it,i did have to make do with a 12V AC/1A plugpack to power it,but I have just bought a 16V AC/1.25A plugpack from my local Jaycar Electronics Store,I'm still yet to put it in it's case though.... :)

I AB'd it with my Strip/Veroboard build, and for practical purposes, they sound identical, except that my Stripboard version seems to be a little smoother when the Drive control is set to the 3'O clock position,my Stripboard version seems to be a bit quieter too.... :)

The tonality of the Real Tube Drive seems to be dependant on what tube you have installed, the biggest difference that I can hear seems to be between a 12AX7 Tube and a 12AT7 Tube, the 12AT7 Tube seems to have more midrange to my ears, whereas a 12AX7 seems to sound a bit midrange scooped, this is disregarding the differences in gain between the two tube types.... :)

A 12AU7A also seems to work in this design too... :)

Okay,I thought that it is only fair that I post some pics of my Real Tube Overdrive using the PCBs I ordered from Bajaman,I know that it doesn't look pretty,I still have to put it in it's enclosure, but it is fully operational, and sounds pretty good to my ears,I substituted a 100pF capacitor for the 120pF capaccitor in parallel with the 500kA drive control, didn't make that much difference to the sound of it.... :)

The tube socket came from a defunct Trace Elliot Tramp amplifier head..... :)

The tube in it is an Edicron 12AX7 with matte silver plates..... :)

I'm using a 16V AC @1.25A plugpack to power it..... :)

The dropper resistor for the heater supply is a 33 Ohm/ 5 Watt Ceramic wire-wound resistor,it gets pretty warm to the touch when the pedal is powered up and running.... :)

It sounds much better running on a 16VAC/1.25A plugpack,I was using a 12VAC/500mA plugpack before, just make sure that the current limiting resistor for the heater filament supply is a 33 Ohm 2 or 5 Watt resistor,5 Watt Ceramic wire wound resistors will fit on the PCB.... :)

Hi,hope this is of some help to you,I compiled this list of parts before I started building my Baja Real Tube Overdrive Stompbox:

Resistors:

X1 33 Ohm / 5 Watt
X1 100 Ohm /1% 1/2W Metal Film
X2 680 Ohm /1% 1/2W Metal Film
X1 1k5 /1% 1/2W Metal Film

X1 22k /1% 1/2W Metal Film
X2 47k /1% 1/2W Metal Film
X2 1M /1% 1/2W Metal Film

*I included 1 extra 10k resistor to be used as the current limiting resistor if you are using a 3mm blue Led in a Chrome Bezel as the footswitch status Led.

X1 10k B (Linear Taper) (Tone)
X1 100k A (Log Taper) (Volume)
X1 500k A (Log Taper) (Drive)

Note, the PCBs can be ordered online by contacting Bajaman,I would deffinitely recommend these as they are good value for money, nice sized PCB traces that are pre-tinned,component holes are pre-drilled too,if you buy a set of these, barring any mistakes, your finished BRTO stompbox is guaranteed to work...first time.

Bajaman accepts Paypal payments.... :)
