Anyone own one of these pedals? The reviews are very good on it. Would love to know what makes it tick.

At C $109 (= US $ 110 = 75 EUR) it's a steal! Sadly nobody here has ever seen the insides of a Catalinbread pedal. Makes you wonder whether they actually sell at all :?:

I have a friend who has one - can't remember which one it was - but I did peak inside of it. He crammed some stuff in there. I actually liked the build quality. It wasn't a specatular, clean, ZVex (OK don't kill me  ) inside but he did manage to get a good deal of things in a small box and I thought it was a nice sounding pedal. Kind of a grass roots approach.

I had one for a short time. Cleans up well with input volume. Really good tone that reminded me of the OCD. Sold it because it was the noisiest pedal on m,y board. I emailed the company about it and never got a response.

it uses the same chip but it supposedly sounds pretty different. here's a little comparison i found:
SCOD - full on midrange harmonic goodness, thick - thick - thick. Not so good cleaning up with your volume knob (pretty horrid actually) - but you don't step on this pedal for that shit, you just bring teh rawk.

HP - crazy level of dynamics, totally clean to pumping low end grind solely depending on how hard you hit the strings. Stupid amounts of punch considering how much gain is on tap.

They are voiced almost the opposite of each other, IMO - the SCOD is all about the midrange while the HP sounds almost scooped by comparison.

I first saw Fender using a CD4007 in one of their late 70s solid state amplifier combos

Those late '70's amps will be remembered for being poor firewood too. The tone of hammered dogshit hitting your upper lip.YMMV of course.

I have one of the single knob hyperpaks (no gain pot, just volume). I've looked inside, but since everything's so crammed in there and the 3PDT is mounted on the PCB you have to remove all external hardware to get the PCB out.

A total one trick pony, but does its one trick very well and has lots of *thump* in the low end without being mushy.

If there's interest I'll crack mine open later in the week and take some board photos

Hmm... bad news I'm afraid...

I opened mine up, removed the nut holding in the stompswitch and attempted to remove the board, but the way it's been put together means I'd have to cut wires in very tight places to get the board out/flipped, and my poor soldering skills don't leave me confident of being able to get it back together again afterwards.

I'll take a better look on the weekend and try to formulate a plan of attack. I really don't want to stuff this up or leave it looking anything but original on the inside.

What I can tell you so far is that there' a 14pin DIP at the heart of it. I can provide shots of the underside of the board, but that's useless without a components shot.

More to come

If you need help getting it back together just ask.

I first saw them in DOD pedals for their bypass rigs.
