Bottle Rocket as stage one in 5E3

Has anyone here actually built a bottle rocket? Its a question of a correct schematic and I have found a couple with subtle differences. On one in particular, the tone stack and the volume control pots seem wrong and this is the schematic that looks like its a Mesa Boogie Service document. In another post somewhere, somebody has said that Mesa Boogie deliberately puts errors into their schematics to prevent cloning and I'm wondering if anyone has gone through this and been successful. I have a 5E3 that I built a few years ago with 6L6s and its sort of limited in its tonal pallet. I'm thinking that I can install the bottle rocket circuit in place of the first stage. I've already changed the parallel inputs that go into V1 into a series circuit so one side of V1 acts as a gain control feeding the other side of V1. It works but the preamp distortion is overly harsh -- I could tinker with this but the bottle rocket is a more direct aproach to getting some true flexibility. I have plenty of headroom for current and it shouldn't be hard to get the correct +Vs. I have all of the parts on order and I've plotted out a turret board that is easily small enough to fit into the available space of 5E3 chassis using Express PCB.
