'Military-looking' switch and potentiometer indicators

Hi. I am trying to gear up for actually making a couple of pedals that should be nice to look at, and i keep seeing pedals here with these big red and black ON/OFF indicators for toggleswitches, and large value indicator plates to be placed below the pot knobs. I've been scouring google, but either I don't know the right names, or a SURPRISING amount of people have access to broken WW2-era electronics. So... where do you get you vintage-military-style faceplates?

I was thinking more in the lines of this:

and the legend plates (as i've found out they are called) under the knobs.

These plates come with a particular large-body chunky DPDT switch that is sold all over the place: I know http://www.bitsbox.co.uk stocks them (and has cheap shipping in the UK) but I've seen them all over the place: Try searching fo "DPDT legend" or "DPDT label" or maybe just trawl the switch department of your favourite online suppliers.

Ah ok.

Banzai has these: http://www.banzaimusic.com/Indicator-Value-Pack.html
€0.65 for 20pcs.

Don't be fooled, they are meant for small toggles like on the pedal above!

Actually i just found some that look like the ones in the picture. Made by Ohmite and apparently used by some industrial heaters:

I dont know if they would sell any, though...

hey, that's my Tri-Vibe! The dial and knobs are both Ohmite, purchased from Mouser. They sell a couple different sizes. I do wish I could find another source with a little more variety and cheaper knobs. It seems like the dial is not that expensive but the matching knob is sort of pricey.

Yes I know :) I hope it didn't seem like I was taking credit! I saw it in the pictures thread, and was like: "That's JUST what i want!" I wondered afterwards if I ought to have credited youm but i couldnt find your post again... Anyways, it's merely accolades (and a teeny bit jealousy).

On topic - the matching knob? Isnt' that just a regular fluted knob? Or no... maybe they look a bit different. Is it specifically hunted out for that look?

no I didn't think you were taking credit, I was just excited to know someone had been looking at it. :-D No prob at all. The matching Ohmite knob itself is not really anything all that special, and like it I said, it's crazy expensive

I bought it based on the preview picture on the Mouser site which made it look like an 1&1/2" MXR, but the actual knob is not like that, the skirt is larger. Probably any knob that is 1&1/2 at the skirt would line up fine with the dial. Good luck with your search, let us know if you find a good source!

Wow, yeah you weren't kidding! :) I keep on being amazed by how a piece of molded plastic, manufactured in the tens of thousands, can be so expensive. I mean, we can't even use the good old mojo excuse. Unless... New avenue for mojo-BS? The knobs?
- "The knobs are matched to the chassis, for smooth control, and the large diameter is quintessential when dialing in the many different shades of distortion"
- "New knobs. Knurled for your pleasure."
