Zoom - HL-01 Hyper Lead

I've had this in a box for ages, just decided to dig it out for a play and it's even more versatile than I remembered, even though I know it's a great pedal.
Curiosity got the better of me and I opened it up.80% smd and a few Panasonic caps and electrolytics. I've taken some high-res gut shots on my DSLR, is there any point in trying to trace this? I've read that IvIark also has/had one.

Definitely worth it, I don't know why I haven't done it yet to be honest with you. My favourite distortion pedal by a mile, well not with my Engl because for some reason it sounds like a can of bees with that, but through all my other amps it's awesome.

I'll upload the photos tomorrow sometime, my free time is somewhat limited but i'll help out whenever I can. It would be great to get a clone of this or even see if it's copying something else because, as you say, it works great with some setups and terrible with others.
I sold my ultrafuzz a few weeks ago, that was another great pedal but not as unique, I could get the same sounds in other pedals.

can't wait. saw the entire line of zoom analog pedals in pawn shop for $150 8 or 9 years ago. Regret not buying it still.

I am quite interested in what is under the hood on this one. I have the Power drive and quite like it. I have always been interested in the Hyper Lead.

Here's a link to the high-resolution photos:
I've tried to adjust the contrast and exposure to make the traces and components as obvious as possible but I fully expect to be digging around in there more as it's not easy to get a decent shot.
For those that aren't familiar with Flickr, you can click on the image which will bring up all the various size options - right up to the original size (5616px x 3744px). It should be easy to read all the PCB markings

I don't know anything about PCB fabrication but it seems odd that the board is only partly SMD and there are some spaces for other standard components. I wonder whether the SMD boards are the same across the line and only the standard components differentiate between some of the models? It might be possible to take one pedal and mod it to another one? Would you be willing to open up your Power Drive?
I really wish that I'd opened up the fuzz now

I can crack my Power drive open but not for a couple of weeks unfortunately as I am moving and most of my stuff is in storage.

Neat!
So, between us, we have the full set...would you be willing to open them up as part of the detective process? I'm intrigued about whether they do use the same basic circuit
