MR. Black - Eterna [DSP chip]
This is an awesome shimmer/reverb pedal that was just released. It seems like a simpler more space friendly alternative to a Strymon Blue Sky.

OH! cool, so does this mean the blue sky isn't really diy friendly either?

Good luck on that venture.

a shimmer effect isn't worth a lot if it doesn't have a second output for the clean signal.
If you want anything else than a totally clean sound for the direct signal, you need two amps anyway...

Sure, you can do some things with only one amp, but you can do most of them better with a stereo setup.
I see the shimmer effect as some kind of replacement for a keyboard player - it delivers an ambient sound and I can change sounds on my main signal without affecting the shimmer signal.
I don't really like pedals for this kind of sounds any more. I used a Verbzilla for a while, but a POD HD is much more flexible: You can use a dual mono setup for one part, a stereo setup for another and two completely different sounds for a third.
I really love building pedals, but I don't use them for modulation/delay/reverb anymore, at least not on stage.
