I guess I could find the answer simply breadboard this up, but asking questions is even simpler ;)

I know that David main of D*A*M effects did some bass friendly versions of Tonebender MKII. I don't play bass myself, but my wife does (actually was, but the bass is still around), so I could build it as a xmass gift, contaminate her with fuzz pestilence, and having common topic to talk about again ;)

My understanding is that enlarging input/output caps could give desired result, am I right? I have just scored (thanks Troy) lovely looking 25000pf Iskra brand styroflex caps and I'm hoping it will be the score when rolling bass mk2

Finally, the question - is there any other place to tune except input and output caps when doing bass-able effect version?

You could maybe increase the value of the cap between Q1 and Q2 (although it's already pretty high.)

I don't know man, AFAIR it's just twicked Fuzz Face with strange tonestack - nothing like TBMKIII

trust me, you don't want a Tonebender for Bass...except you want to play some noise-punk

Im hunting out some details on the DAM tuned version, so maybe that will be fruitful. It might not be much different than a Supa Fuzz, which was already kind of a darker MKII.

Anyway....for my money i'd make a MKIII for bass! Or just make a Zeke....

A MkII circuit does not lend itself to bass guitar. Too much gain, too "mushy" of a character. There's way better candidates out there for bass use.

I made one with a slightly higher output cap value, 0.033 or something like that. I haven't tried it with bass, but using my guitar tuned down to B F# B Eb G# B it works quite nicely, with that buzzsaw sound having some of the screeching highs damped a bit.

On the whole though, along with others who have posted, I think there are better options available. Maybe a Big Muff in one of its mutant variants with a modified tone control would be worth making.

Hey Pawel, Jim from Built to Spill just posted this on the DAM forum:

Image

The J-Type fuzz is a mkII with variable tone control on the input and output. Which, we could probably easily guess, is a cap selector on the "FAC" (probably the input) and a blend between two caps on the "filter" (probably output). Should do all the bass you like!
