Vox VBM1 Buggered!

A couple of years ago, I bought this limited "Deacy" amp from a guy on ebay. I never really used it when it arrived because I only really wanted it for its collect-ability but a few weeks back I plugged it in. Straight away I noticed there was an unnatural kind of decay on every note/chord played. It also sounded very spluttery. Using the line out, it sounded fine as did the phones socket.
So, I opened it up to find a train wreck!! The transformer had been replaced with some rusty old thing which was held to the chassis via a bent screw. The wires from the transformer had been rolled together with the wires from the board and held in place with PARCEL TAPE!! I've since wired it properly but I still have that horrible sound from it.
I tried to contact Vox but they didn't reply.

Anyone have any ideas or a schematic for this amp?

Incidently, I couldn't remember who I bought it from otherwise I would have rammed the amp up his arse!! :x

Thanks guys

Checked with another speaker? A friend of mine add some similar issue with his Marshall, and it turned out to be a bad speaker.

The speaker seems ok. No tears in the cone that I can see. Don't know about the coil though. Will try another one. Thanks :)
