LED Off / On Wiring

I have a switch / led wiring question that I can't seem to find an answer to. Maybe someone here knows what I'm talking about.

On the pedals I've built I use the 3PDT switch to open and close the led circuit and it works fine... BUT even when there is no instrument cables inserted into the pedal I can still effectively switch the pedal off and on. I noticed on most other pedals this is not the case. They don't seem to come on, or at least the led doesn't come on, unless there's something jacked in.

Am I wiring up the switch / led wrong? Using the wrong types of in/out jacks (I typically use mono jacks)? And finally, does it really matter?

Thanks! That's EXACTLY what I needed! I suspected I needed to use a different input jack but I wasn't sure which one or how it should be wired. That's the one place I didn't look... Beavis Audio. I forget about that site sometimes. So much good stuff there.

Much appreciated!
