What wattage practice amp needed to drive 4 x 12 cab?

I have a 60 watt all tube Peavey head, and it is very hard to dial it down to a low volume and not wake up anyone. What I want to build is a low wattage (that runs off 9 to 18 volts) practice amp, but what wattage should I be looking at to drive a 4 x 12 cabinet? The cabinet is 16 ohms. I would like to build something that does not have any tone control.
I have looked at the Ruby, Little Gem, Noisy Cricket, Smokey tone amp, and Tube Cricket schematics but would any of these work on a 4 x 12 cabinet? If not, does anyone have a schematic for a practice amp that would drive a 4 x 12 cabinet?
Thanks
Rob

Anything. 5W, 1W, 1/2W, whatever. Ive found the idea that a small amp cant push a big cab to be ridiculous. Ive played a ruby through a 4x15.

I have a 1/4 watt all tube practice amp that I built. It has no problem pushing a 4X12. It'll go up to about 70dB with the right speaker. It uses a self-split 12AU7 for the power tube.

Providing that the amp has a 16 Ohm speaker out socket, you should have no problems using a small practice amp rated anywhere from say .5 watt to 5 watts, just make sure that the speaker out impedance is same as the speaker cab, this is especially so for Valve type practice amps.....

Any amp using an LM386 as the noisy cricket, ruby amp, smokey amp or similar designs, produce an interesting volume to play trough a 4x12 cabinet.
Is advisable running this little amplifiers with a wall wart supply instead of 9v batteries, as they drain several mA more than any pedal.
Cheers,
Jose

Thanks! I will try one of the 386 amps. Is any one of them better at not changing any of the guitar tone going thru it? I want to use this to try my distortion build's with, and want to try to get as much of the pedal's true tone.
Groovenut, anyway I can get your schematic for your tube amp? I have (2) 12AU7 tubes laying around with nothing to do with them.
Thanks
Rob
