Ibanez - TMS Trashmaster Soundtank

Well I recently picked up one of these Thrashmasters in a metal enclosure [early 90's 1st edition soundtank] and I must say it sounds superb. The name is rather unfortunate though.. :hmmm:
It can cover ALOT of ground, from relatively low gain overdrive to Marshall shredmaster without sounding muddy or inarticulate. Plenty of mids too. Its become my favorite distortion box in a short time, bumping my MIJ DS-1 off the board. Anybody know what this pedal is based on?
Its got a single jrc4558 in it and sounds kinda like a real hot tubescreamer, but thats just my hunch. Its more articulate than a TS though with alot more gain, but its still in the overdrive/distortion camp...not Thrashmetal!

By the way, the 'sample setting' in the brochure is hilarious!
Its a very bright pedal and I've got my trebel rolled all the way off...even after modding it for more bass! With the trebel and gain maxed [like the 'sample' setting] it would sound kinda like a mic check feedback moment where everyone is covering their ears...

The TM5 has as much in common with a TS as an ocean freighter with a cruise ship. Do not be fooled into the TS conclusion by seeing a 4558. The TM is loosely based on a ProCo Rat:

Thanks Dirk! Yeah its similar to my MOOER Rat come to think of it. But I'm prefering it to the Mooer,a Crunch Box and Shredmaster clone for distortion duties. I was so plesently surprised that I just won a metal box 'Classic Metal' after seeing its related to the 250/dist + on your outstanding Ibanez page.[Thanks for taking the time to put that together, very cool!
I've also got a soundtank tremolo on my board. Last one I'm looking for is the Soundtank compressor and I'm done...honest!

Well...a metal box 60's fuzz would be cool too!

I used to have the CrunchyRythym back in My late teens ( It was the cheapest dirt pedal I could find !) - It really was pretty woeful.
Sort of slightly dirty boost with crappy synthetic sounding fizz on top.
However , I later discovered that it was really good on drum machine - Almost worked like an Exciter of sorts.
Kind of wish I still had it just for that purpose.

Well my 'Thrashmaster' title was close but no cigar...maybe this thread wasnt meant to show up in search results!
