Thanks....
I would use a 250k poti in the feedback loop of the first opamp, change R4 to 100k lift from pin 7, lift R5 from pin 7, one outer lug of the poti connected to the lifted R4, the other connected to the lifted R5 and the slider connected to pin 7 of the opamp.
C2 100n is really low n this configuration. is a high-pass with corner frequency at approx. 4kHz. C3 (1n2) starts reducing gain at about 400Hz. As a result the second stage never reaches the theoretically gain of 470, the max. gain will be below 100.

but there's also a modded version with gain control:

haven't compared the component values yet though.
just throwing this in. Hope you don't mind me linking to your gallery, Mark.
Mark's too busy scoring a Klon, I think.

I made my Layout from the schem that 1-800 linked to.
Funny though that AG's pics have that switch on the side?
The Gain control layout was just something I stuck into the original to try and get a bit of control over the circuit rather than have it wide open all the time.
You guys can link to my stuff whenever ya want.....I don't mind one bit!
Thanks for the Kudos too!

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.
i've been comparing markm's layouts for the rustdriver and his modded rustdriver with gain control.
he replaced the 470k resistor with a 500kB pot for gain control.
does this mean that if i socket that resistor, i can experiment and find a smoother overdrive with a lower value resistor? (i want a 1 knobber... so i just want to look for the right amount of gain for my taste)
in markm's pcb layouts and the vero layout i found, there never is a 3 way switch, so this seems obselete.
i guess experimenting with input and output caps will give me the EQ i like?
what is the correct IC for the rust driver?
maybe there is a better option than the correct to specs one?

So finally, here's the layout I'm using with values
I tried the Schottkys and they're good, seem to give a very middle rich, modern tone. I've settled on a pair of BAW62s which i got on a whim just to try out some different stuff. They're way louder, but less gainy than the Schottkys, or 1N914s etc. The BAW62s sound more Super Lead than JCM to my ears, if you know what I mean. A little baggier and saggier, less tight and defined sounding. Also tried some germaniums in there which sounded OK, like the BAW62 but a hint fizzy maybe cos they were quieter??
Once again, thanks all for your help

I have literally NO idea what I am doing.
The toggle switch (on/off/on) is attached to the FB-loop on IC1a and replacing the 1,2nF cap.
cap values are 1n / - / 2,7 or 3,3n.
When I checked those values, no cap was to bright and the 3rd pos. was way to dull for me so I went with a 1,2n like in the old version.
In front of a BF-Fender the RD emulates the 50W '69 plexi amp (bright input) really well without lacking the glass crushing treble response of a good Marshall. Used with other amps it sounds like a cheasy, cheapo distortion/fuzz.

Layout verified, I've just finished building a unit: very, very, very nice pedal. Now it's a bit late here to check the sound at a loud level but its tone really seems to remind a plexi on my peavey classic 30.nooneknows wrote:I made a veroboard layout for the cRust Driver, it is not verified yet but I guess is ok
Some ago I've built a cot50, that it is supposed to sound marshall like, but the Rust Driver totally blows it away, it wins hands down!

anyway, there's something about the use of the LM358 instead of the LF353 (maybe) at the bottom of the page, it could be interesting, I have one at home, I'll try it (well, I think I'll test every opamp I have also...).
