I wonder if this is a modded Fet Muff (probably yes), as Mr. Caldwell reports in his site:
Note: this design was inspired by the work of Jack Orman, so I'm not presenting this as my original design. However, I have incorporated several changes and produced my own PCBs, following the same principles used in the Triad and my other products. So this is not a "kit" I put together, but still I want to thank and credit Jack for his work.

Anyone knows something about it?
Matteo

I built a FET Muff and could not get good sounds out of it. The thing just sounded horrible. I noticed the Bias was off on all of the FETs, so I changed the drain resisters until drain of each FET was about 4.5V. This sounded better, but still nothing to write home about.

I used J201s which might be the problem?

I also substituted the 3.3uf caps for 1uf. But I can't imagine that this would have such a huge difference.

I also notice the switches which remove or insert the clipping diodes don't do much. I can not hear much difference with or with out them.

I suspect that this is not that great a project or people would build it and you would hear reviews. Nice idea, but not every idea makes a stellar effect. I had the idea when I was testing it out that the BMP sounds best through a clean amp. It's flavor of distortion doesn't mix well with amp distortion. FETs make "an amp like" distortion. Maybe using BMP style clipping with over driven FETs doesn't work? Caused by inter-modulation of the two types of clipping.

Then again maybe my build has problems.

Maybe a really great fuzz could be made mixing FETs and BJTs , and maybe MOSFET, based on the BMP?

Bringing up an old thread. With Lyle gone, lets find out how this thing works.
I like the sound a lot, although I find the pedal a bit noisy.

Drive pot: B100K "7G3"
Tone pot: B100K "7G3"
Level pot: A100K

4 Transistors: 2N5088 G53

C1: 100uF
C2: 352K
C3: 471J "5A"
C4: 471J "5A"
C5: 471J "5A"
C6: 101J "5A"

The diodes are unfortunately difficult to read, but appear to have the numbers 9,1,4 printed on them.

Let me excuse my choice of words. I was referring to his choice to cut off all contact with his customers.
