NOC3 Effects- GnarWall Fuzz and parallel loop mixer  [documentation]

Been working on this one for a while. Muff inspired. Pre and Post EQ controls, Parallel loop Mixer that functions as clean blend with nothing plugged in (switching jacks), parallel low-pass drive circuit for punchy deep bass frequencies, boost mode with pregain, fuzz, and master controls. Xmode switch gives "frequency tripling" aka crossover distortion and a mild gating effect.

For guitar, bass, synth or anything you want to make sound like a magical blubbery sea creature.

Clipping section is something I thought up... it gradually clips the higher frequencies harder and harder. hard limiting the high frequencies negates the need for a lot of filtering and also gives a thick fuzz texture that can sound almost like it is chorusing at times.

Blatant disregard for parts count :horsey:

I'll be getting circuit boards made, just not sure how many yet... PCB is about 4inches square, setup for board mounted pots and toggle switches, with off board jacks and bypass. I use ExpressPCB so they are good quality boards, just not the cheapest. I'm thinking of doing a kickstarter once I have an idea of how many DIY guys are interested. What do you think?

Looks good, I would be in for one PCB.

I dont use PCBs really, but this looks like interesting stuff to build, so i would love one

Cool.

It is a double sided PBC design. Ground planes, plated through holes, silkskreen and soldermask. There are some resistor values that may need tweaking :hmmm: but overall, I'm happy with the topography, interface ease of use and tonal variety. I kept the layout pretty tight around the op-amps, with a bit more space around transistor stages noise and phase considerations (can be tweaked for lots-o-gain). Should be quiet considering parts count and available gain. Four big grippy knobs on the outside for foot fading, tiny tall knobs inside for fine tuning. Room left in the intended enclosure for easy wiring and ripe for modding even more  .

I'll leave a few holes on the board open for test points and easy wire-in points for additional mods (mainly for the noise sickos). I'm thinking of working on a simple noise gate that could be wired in between ground at the "fuzzOut" tag. The boost switch is just a 3PDT with all the center poles grounded, switching the extra boost pot resistances in to engage the boost or shorting them out to turn it off.

Here is the layout of the controls, planned enclosure is 1590DD arranged vertically.

This sounds interesting, do you have any clips of the prototype ?
You can count me in for two boards.

Well, I found an error on that schem 8) ... at the op-amp driven tone section I've got the + and - inputs reversed. I'll fix it and update the OP link when I get things finalized.

That's just the preliminary schem but I've built most of it and its a huge mess without the PCB. I'm working through Prototypes at the moment and finalizing everything. I've moved the Sub mix control behind the buffer stage to minimize interference with the BASS control.

Sorry, no clips. I don't own any microphones or computers without shitty sound-cards. I'll see if I can get some quality demos made... maybe I'll offer handies to some local craigslist "studio owners."

Hey Nick, how's this one coming along ? :D

I just moved 200 miles to Asheville so this is on the back burner at the moment. The PCB design is done, I just have no money right now to get it fabbed.

I know it's been the better part of a decade, but did anything ever come of this?
