Crazy... I saw the bow and thought about something that happened today... The battery was dying in my ebow. IT WAS AN AWESOME SOUND! I think I'm going to mod my ebow with a small pot, a bit of double stick tape on back of the pot and it's mounted on the outside of the case of the ebow. Roll it back to choke the bows juice... again, that was funky pjimiphoton!
I want it to sound like bees buzzing around in a 55 gallon drum...

That works. just saying. I like the round ones for slide. sort of kidding, sort of not. Thought of it years ago.pinkjimiphoton wrote:or a vibrator.....lol
and the astroglide is friendlier to maple fretboards than rosewood. Don't use it on rosewood, unless you want to convert your ladyfriend to using boiled linseed oil.

hmmm...astroglide is too thick, i'd think... ky is watery-er...
lol
seriously, vibrators, little battery operated toys, all kindsa cool stuff you can mess with.
my latest idea is this...
guitar into box containing: fuzz>>envelope follower>>buffered splitter.... one side of splitter to ruby or something similar with an output jack, the other side to your normal guitar rig.
here's the cool part... find an old telephone handset, and steal the speaker out of it. the cheap ass plastic ones usually have a foam gasket around them,
hook the ruby to the telephone speaker, and clamp the speaker to your headstock with a small c clamp or something. hook the other output of the box to your normal guitar rig.
now, when ya play, the signal is split ... half to your amp, and half to the ruby driving your headstock. by dynamically varying your attack, you can sweep the envelope filter to hit different frequencies to control the feedback going to your headstock.
in reality, an inductorless wah would probably be easier, cuz ya put the whole mess in a wah shell, and can sweep it to whatever frequencies make the guitar sustain, scream, or feedback.
kinda like the old sustainiac system. you could probably jump octaves of feedback with the wah, and find whatever frequency you need with the treadle.
and since it's going to your amp, too, you can use it as a "feedback helper"...cuz the amp, once the resonances of the guitar are excited, will feedback whatever frequency you want, controllably. maybe even harmonized. i dunno.
just an idea, again, standing on the shoulders of giants...
do you think it would work?

Is there anyway to convert this clip tuner pickup into a driver instead?

if it's a piezo, it should work in either direction. but i don't know if that will transmit enough vibration to make it work.
i'm assuming it's gonna have to drive the headstock pretty hard, a ruby may not be enough. maybe i'll try it tomorrow.

386 will do it. you just need to run it thru a transformer (backwards) to up the voltage on the way to the piezo. power hungry so battery no good - use a supply. encapsulate piezo disc in hot glue to make rugged (hint - hot glue doesn't stick to grease proof paper once cooled) and attach to cheap plastic clamp (just like the image posted above - that product would probably work just as well too) or just use a sprung capo like i do to connect to headstock. amount of pressure applied by clamp affects response - it needs to be just so - experiment. i used rubber bands around the grips to ease the pressure. nut and bolt would be better i guess. polarity switch for double the fun.pinkjimiphoton wrote:if it's a piezo, it should work in either direction. but i don't know if that will transmit enough vibration to make it work.

By the way, have you tried those vibrating butt plugs (unused of course) look kinda interesting!
You need to make a pinkjimi pleasure bow! It would have to be pink, of course!

Hi Jimi,
I just watched that first video clip you posted and I have to say that's a really cool idea, have you tried using some kind of a delay effect, maybe a Tape Delay?, that should produce some pretty trippy sounds.....

Congrats, Jimi! You have invented the Ghetto Gizmotron!
The Gizmotron (Gizmo in the UK) was invented by Lol Creme and Kevin Godley of 10cc in the mid-late 70s as a kind of sustainer/guitar string section, but had the misfortune of bumping up against the eBow in the marketplace.
I actually like your version better than Godly & Creme's, since holding the thing in your hand is definitely less unsightly than attaching a massive contraption to the guitar, it's apparently a lot less noisy, probably feels a lot more like playing the guitar than pressing buttons with your right hand, and -- the #1 reason to prefer PinkJimiPhoton's VCR motor bow to Godley & Creme's Gizmotron: (Drum roll...) It's less likely to make you sound like 10cc! OTOH, it doesn't really do harmonies, so there's that
But for purely historical interest:
