Diode: substitute UF4002 for 1N400x?
I was looking for some 1N400x diodes to use for the reverse power protection portion of a circuit and I found some UF4002. I compared the data sheets and it appears that they are almost identical. The only significant differences I found were...

I can't believe you can't find a 1N400x diode,they are anywhere.
Beware of the AC supplies with this protection,it won't work....

UF400x diodes are as you say almost same with 1N400x ones. The UF's are faster though - they switch off more quickly, so they tend to cause less ringing problems in some circuits. They are regarded as a quality version of 1N400x diodes, being regarded as softer diodes for switching applications.

You could also get 1N5819 Schottky diodes, as the have a forward drop of only 0.400V compared to a silicon rectifier diodes of 0.600V.
I always use Schottky diodes in all of my projects that require reverse polarity protection. But I have to stress, this is a matter of choice and should make no difference to what you intend.
