have anyone tried the smd version of the j201?? are they easier to bias??? or they are the same?? i want to get a lot of them to try them on the wampler plexi drive, its a bag of 25 but im not sure if thats enough to get 3 of them biased to 4.5-5v with the wampler schematic...

No differences. This is the same semiconductor inside.

I just bought that pack of 25 and some through-hole adapters from OSH Park, although I haven't had an opportunity to try them yet. J0K3RX who is a member here has bought SOT23 J201's previously and he said they are much more consistent than the through hole ones he's used. He said out of 100 they almost all matched.
