Here's a PCB project that's sort of a cross between an early Gainster and a Red Snapper. You can also build a three knob Gainster or a four knob Snapper with this layout. I got much of the information I needed from this forum. In particular, I'd like to acknowledge JHS here, and I'd also like to thank gaussmarkov for his fantastic Eagle library.

Check out some great discussion on the Gainster here:

Snapster parts list:

C1 .1 mF
C2 151pF (film)
C3 .047 mF
C4 .0022 mF
C5 .1mF
C6 47mF
C7 .0022mF
D1 1N914
D2 1N914
D3 1N914
IC1 TI TL072CP
R1 10K
R2 1M
R3 10K
R4 1K
R5 10K
R7 10K
R8 10K
RA 1M
VOL 100K-A
GAIN 1M-A
BIAS 50K-B
CUT 25K-B

To build an early Gainster, make the following changes:

C2 = 120pF (silver mica)
C7 = nothing
IC1 = JRC 072BD
RA = nothing (I prefer it with the 1M though)
VOL = 500K-A
BIAS = 25K-B
CUT = 22K resistor connecting pads 1 and 3

Here are some Clark / Barber Gainster sound clips:

These are from a later version of the Gainster though, which I understand is a little more bassier. I think this pedal really shines when used as a lower gain boost. The Bias (or presence) and Gain controls are very interactive.

Enjoy! :thumbsup

Great contribution, thanks!
Sound clips might not mean much for differences in setup/guitars etc.
