The 7 transistor is NOT the latest version. It is the problematic earlier version. As far I know the current production version hasn't changed since it switched to the 4 transistor model and has already been posted.

After 14 years I finally built this!
I got lucky and it fired right up.
I swaped out the 2N5088s I had
in there and tried some higher
gain 2N5089s which did not work
as I just got a hard gated sound out.
I breadboarded the first stage
and measured the emitter (Output)
voltage. Non working transistors
measured .04v or so. Working
transistors were in the 3v to 4v
area at least on the transistors I
measured.
