I wonder what hand-adjusted MOSFETs means? Hand picked / selected maybe?

Trimmers? Bend them by hand to fit the holes?

Gate on an Overdrive? ................. That's like a wheelie bar on a Pinto ... Shouldn't be necessary.

It's here: THE definitive EVH overdrive, courtesy of Dunlop. The 5150 Overdrive was developed by Dunlop engineer Bob Cedro in conjunction with Eddie himself. It pretty much nails Eddie’s tone, and this isn’t hyperbole—Eddie himself agrees.

The story goes like this: Bob Cedro, one of Dunlop’s top engineers, was hard at work nailing Eddie’s tone. After several prototypes and revisions, a day came where Eddie and Bob sat at Dunlop HQ. Eddie brought all his gear to test the 5150 Overdrive side by side with his actual rig, and sat with his back turned to Bob and the gear. Bob carefully dialed in the 5150 Overdrive and it reached a point where Eddie couldn’t tell.

“Is that my gear or the pedal?” Eddie asked.

“You tell me,” said Bob.

Thus, the 5150 was born—the closest approximation to Eddie’s tone on the market. Six knobs adorn the 5150 Overdrive: Gain, Volume, a full three-band EQ (Bass, Mid, Treble) as well as a handy Gate knob for dialing out noise that normally accompanies high-gain pedals. The range of the knobs are very robust; the EQ knobs are very dramatic and the Gain knob’s range is especially dynamic.

The onboard Boost switch kicks the 5150 into high-gain territory, by adding a generous gain boost that seems to add to everything, rather than adding to the total gain by subtracting tone.

All in all, we doubt you’ll be able to find a better pedal for copping EVH tones. Not even Eddie could tell the difference.

I would guess it might be an angle on a DS1or DIST+ type circuit with a mu BSIAB/booster type of thing involved plus the noise gate along with a TMB tone stack.

Or maybe a MOSFET-based BSIAB mu-amp arrangement with a TMB tonestack. Somene will crack one open at some stage for a peek at the SMDs in all thier glory.

I don't think slash uses his " signature " gear either, Every couple of years Ed seems to need another

Dunlop do seem to get more than their fair share of headline guitarists in terms of endorsements.

That's because they throw their money around to get the endorsements. You'll have noticed that their (fairly ordinary) pedals are 50 - 100% more expensive than their competitors - this is so that they can pay for the celebrity endorsements!
