Cheers for posting this for us, I've actually made one of these for myself in the past, the circuit is fairly easy to build and get going and from my memory it sounds a bit different to an MXR Dynacomp....
Might try building myself one of these.....
Note: You can use any standard LDR and 5mm Led in this circuit, use some black heatshrink tubing to both hold the LDR and Led together in close proximity and also to shield the two from ambient light......
