Hi,

This is my first project ever and, of course, I managed to mess it up. I expected this. I also expect that I will need a new switch and switch pcb, unfortunately:

In order to continue troubleshooting I'm assuming I need to collect the values for the components before asking for help?

You need to practice those soldering skills,, Now is probably a good time to perfect the art of soldering.
Also your iron may not be hot enough to wet the whole pad and the solder won't flow if not at the right temperature,, if you are using Lead free solder,, throw it in the bin as it's useless for home builders  You need real solder with lead as it flows far better.

When inserting wires you need to twist the ends then pre-tin them and that will make it a lot easier to get good joins.
Others here may know of a good link to how to solder.
BTW that broken track is an easy fix,, No need to buy a new switch but practice on scraps first.
Phil.

Thank you. Yea, I bought lead-free, non-pre-tinned, non-pre-bonded wire. I have a bunch of switches and switch pcbs coming from 3pdt so hopefully the ol' Klon isn't dead.

Thanks again!

edit: The rest of the board is pretty clean, in my opinion. The two clipping diodes in the photo look a little cold but are filled in now. I had real trouble with the pads on the switch pcb, for some reason.

Go buy some 60/40 solder (60% Tin + 40% Lead).
The iron you have may then have enough heat to make good solder joins.
I have used a cheap 40Watt Iron for 30 plus years and never had a problem.
To fix the broken track, Snip off the crud end of the wire, strip a new end then lay the pre tined twisted wire hard up against the corresponding tab on the switch pad and solder it there,, fixed :thumbsup

lead free is for factory production where they have all the machines and technology to do it,, for home building forget it

Soldered the wires directly to the switch lugs, bypassing the pcb. Same problem. No signal output when switched off and there is a loud hum. Switched on signal is passed but is thin and a bit raspy and noisy. Off to take values.

So the Klon's 3 JFETs need testing. I've found the pinout online but am unclear on testing.

edit: also 2 of the diodes are reading about .35 in both directions. That does not sound good, although I tested with them wired into an unpowered board.
