Maybe he keeps forgetting how to do the mod, so he has to buy one to see what he did.
Or maybe he's afraid one of us will buy it and expose his super-secret famous mod.

I was kinda thinking that myself... maybe we should start a mission to buy tear apart and document his mods. Ive always thought about doing that, take a before pic of the pedal. send to "super cool mod guy of the month" and get it back and write down the changes... then become the super cool mod guy too...
