Questions about a Kazan fuzz I’m repairing [schematic]

Hello all I decided to dredge up a Kazan USSR era fuzzbox. I was gonna overhaul most of it ditching the weirdo 5 pin DIN’s, replace the footswitch (it looks like it come off an old lamp). But my main goal is to improve the overall oddities of the design. As it stands it doesn’t output unity gain even with levels maxed. I believe ditching R17 may help with this problem (can anyone confirm if this may help?). Also the tone knob acts more like a tone switch and only changes the tone at the very end of the sweep. I am uncertain if this is a problem with the sweep of the pot itself or if I needed to change the value. Below is a disclosed schematic.
And as always thanks in advance!

Found an oddity when digging in. Schematic shows a 3 transistor circuit but mine appears to have 4... may need to trace and see what was revised in the circuit...

this schematic is for the booster pedal, not for a fuzz one that you are searching for.
Also, version 1:

I greatly appreciate this. Keeps me from having to spend a long time tracing it out. Also confirms my theory as to where the input and output should go (I was a bit confused that the input ran directly into a diode, then seeing my pedal has 4 trannies I began to suspect I was looking at a revised version to which I didn’t have a schematic for (until now of course!)

The one time I was able to get it to work it sounded brutal. Was full on fuzz, the tone control wasn’t super efficient though
