Ok strange thing happening to me

I made a couple of them and always get the "octave sound" of the 60's version, even using this particular schematic. The only time it sounded like the orange 70's version (much more "in your face" fuzz with no octave sound( was wen I accidentally badly wired one transistor... Any idea why???

Because the schematic is for the 60s version, it is clearly not the same as the board in the picture. There's no trim pot for one.

Here's a pic of one that I recently worked on (v1), the schematic is for this version.

2SC828 are pictured here, the transistors in the later one are clearly not.
